I’ve installed and am trying to use the tax filing software for foreigners. I can get as far as the “Resident Days” tab in the first section (Taxpayer Information), but then I am unable to put in my date of entry. No matter what date I use, I get “2009/mm/dd is not a valid entry” (where mm and dd are the month and year of whatever I inputed).
I can click the “Update” button so that my dates appear in the bottom of the screen (regardless of the error), but it will calculate my resident days as “0” if I do.
Also, for the prompt at the right asking whether I left during 2009, the “no” option is grayed out and only the “yes” option can be clicked.
I’ve tried this in both English and Chinese with no luck.
Anybody else have this problem and know a solution?
No they didn’t. Below is written, when no exit during 2009 then write 2009/12/31.
Makes me crazy, cause even i stayed 363 days in 2009 the program insists that i had 0 resident days and wanna charge me 20%
Ok, for all having the same issue, I called the hotline and following solution works:
In Windows open Control Panel, Regions and Language (Win7, in other operating systems could be different name) and change here the Date Format from English to Chinese Traditional (Taiwan). Then open the software again and no more errors appear.
Also the additional fields for tax deduction now appear.
Thanks Tom. I had tried changing the non-Unicode language setting from English to Taiwan with no luck. But I’ve never tried changing the “Date Format” before, so I’ll be sure to try that.
Another thing that works (this is what I was starting to do just now before I saw your post) is to borrow somebody’s computer running Taiwanese Windows, and run the software on there (and preferably in Chinese). This also solves a lot of formatting and other weird bugs.
Also, I noted that there is a new version of the software available as of today (1.22), so folks might want to update as well.
