Girl-fights with locals

Hypothetical:

There are days when patience is thin and being gawked at by Taiwanese makes me want to punch. Especially young women who stared and giggle and whisper to each other, and talked openly about the foreigner in their midst. I have enough Taiwan experience to know that that’s just how people are here, so I usually just ignore it or if I’m getting stared out I will stare right back to the point hwere they get embarrassed and back off. But some days I find myself just wanting to be like “You got a problem bitch?” or a slightly more diplomatic “You may not realize it, but outside of Taiwan it’s very rude to stare at people.”

I mean I’m a tall (5’11) and pretty nice looking girl, and most of the time they’re not actually saying anything bad. It doesn’t really matter though, being gawked at is never fun. Anyways, how might Taiwanese women react to this kind of confrontation? Of course I don’t want to get in any physical fights, just wonder what the culture is around that. Would it be like with guys where they call up their homies to gang up?

this post needs pic. otherwise, I don’t know what the local girls are thinking.

Nah, they won’t do nuthin’. What they will do is film you losing your temper and give it to the media and then you’ll be absolutely vilified.

But whywhywhy bother? I get it far more in China than I did in Taiwan, but I just assume it’s because I am incredibly beautiful and important. Or my skirt’s tucked into my knickers again. Who cares?

+1

I’m guessing that you have some attribute they wish they had. You’ve noticed the number of fake blondes and brunettes in Taiwan haven’t you?

Why would they be giggling and staring at you? Are your titties popping out of your turtleneck or something?
If they’re staring and giggling at you, its because they’re jealous and they wish they were attracting the same kind of attention themselves…

My ten-year-old daughter gets stared at hard by girls around her age. It’s almost the way a guy would stare at a girl and that kind of puzzles me. My wife and also my buddy’s Taiwanese wife both tell me it’s jealousy. My guess is you’re probably running into the same kind of thing. Personally, when I run into the starer, I just stare back. I look Asian but then I also don’t so I get stares here and there (probably nothing like what some other foreigners go through, though).

So, sometimes you look Asian? :eh:
Like from certain angles or something? Now I’m just plain curious.

I think rarity is what causes people to turn heads and take notice. I know that every time I see another foreigner in public, I tend to take notice. When I was younger, I used to approach other foreigners just to chit chat because I felt so out of place here.

As long as you say this in a tone of voice that doesn’t shout “Wanna go!?” I think it’s a very good idea. Be the change you want to see and all that jazz.

But it would probably more effective if you said it in Chinese.

I’m half Korean and half American. I’m guessing that that’s the way I look from the reactions I encounter (again and again): Someone comes up to me in the street speaking Mandarin (or Korean in Korea). Before I have a chance to reply, they kind of take a closer look, then either continue to speak in Mandarin or break into English. I’ve been told I look more Asian than Caucasian.

A friend of my sister’s is like that. During the day she’s “clearly” a black girl. Like 100%, doesn’t look mixed at all. At night she’s “clearly” an Asian girl. Like 100%, doesn’t look mixed at all. It’s hard to imagine if you haven’t seen it for yourself, but stuff like that can happen.

To the OP, enjoy the celebrity. I got annoyed by all the attention as well, especially when I wore athletic gear. It then occurred to me that they may have thought I was in the NBA! I am nowhere near tall enough to be in the NBA, but I am taller than the average Taiwanese person.

When it got so annoying I couldn’t take it anymore I would go places where they’re more used to foreigners. This would relieve the pressure for a bit.

Where is this magic place?

Yep, if you want to get away from the feeling if sticking out hang out with some foreign buds, it lightens the staring load. When I was younger and better looking I got stared at a lot more. The blonder, whiter, taller , prettier, handsomer, tattooed up or muscle bound you are…the more attention you will get. There is a serious lack of diversity here.

Yesterday a random security guard came over on the MRT , belched and stared at my kids intensely for 10-15 seconds straight. I shouted hello at him and it took him another ten seconds for his brain to get into gear and fuck off. Slow on the uptake some folks.

Looks black and asian? Wow, that’s a new one. Pics of both please.
Being tall is a good problem to have.

this thread is short on pics and long on talk!

Fucking hell, can you stop being so creepy with the new female posters? We do want them to stay, no?

You want a picture of a guy’s sister’s pal? And the OP? Because absolutely, noone’s going to post a bunch of pictures for you weirdoes to leer at, you Beavis and Butthead numskulls. Huhuh, laydeez! Tall ladies! Mixed race ladies! Huhuh. Huhuh. … :unamused:

There is more porn out there than is dreamt of in your philosophy and you don’t even need your mums’ credit card numbers for a lot of it. The sad thing is, it’d take youse half an hour to figure out what to do to it.

The requests for pics are creepy. They’re so close to the very same thing the girl is complaining it.

Anyway, it could just be the fact that you’re taller than most Taiwanese women.

if you actually think I expect them to produce pics, then you are short on something yourself. female posters on FLOB typically don’t stay anyways unless they’re in the women’s forum. be realistic. you guys are boring.
