Is this the famous death line where they only consider you as a friend?

All depends on context though, doesn’t it? What are the other contextual clues you have? It could be a genuine appreciation for you showing some interest, or it could be the cold shoulder. Is she making a sign against the evil eye while she says it?

My wife reckons that’s “the famous death line” all right. Basically, “we’re friends, so you don’t need to worry about me too much…”
FWIW, my wife is 26, so I reckon she’s pretty clued into the young girl lingo/meaning…

actually, i had sent an email to a girl that i know in Taiwan (I have since returned to CA) and asked what she was up to, and thats where I got the line.
“I’m doing this and this, what have you been up to, thank you for your concern”

Thats what I thought. If I was interested in someone, and they asked how I was doing, I certainly wouldn’t thank them for their concern.
