I’m going to Burma next month. A couple words of advice:
-
A plane ticket from North America to Southeast Asia costs the same as one from North America to Taiwan. But a direct flight from TPE to RGN on EVA Air or China Airlines alone costs over TWD 20,000 after tax, so it’s a mighty fine deal to book a through ticket between North America and Burma (or even anywhere else in SEA except Manila because Cebu Pacific is dirt cheap) and use TPE as a stopover (cost is USD 100 per stopover - so you’re essentially spending USD 200 for a ticket to SEA).

I applied for my Burmese visa through these folks: http://www.abctours.com.tw, which according to the internet is where all other travel agents send their Burmese visa applications to. It cost TWD 800. They said they needed 4 business days but ended up only taking two. This is much cheaper and faster than applying through anywhere else (cheaper than applying directly in Bangkok!). They only required a passport and one photograph (no need to fill out application form or provide an ARC or provide a business card/proof of employment - they took care of all the paperwork and even provided pre-filled arrival, departure, and customs declaration forms). I was amazed by how simple it was.
