In looking over the new Gold Card page, there was a comment regarding the 6 month waiting period for normal ARC card holders . The page said “ At present, you must reside in Taiwan for a consecutive six-month period (or leave only once for less than 30 days) and apply My question is does the one month max out of Taiwan apply for spouses of Gold Arc holders? I know that Gold ARC holders are qualified upon arrival.

Gold card holders (who don’t have a regular job) also have to wait 6 months - there’s no automatic NHI eligibility with the gold card*. The economic immigration act may eventually change that, but given how long it’s been taking to pass so far I wouldn’t hold your breath.
*Some earlier sources about the gold card may suggest otherwise, but they’re wrong.

If you are employed as a foreign professional, your dependants get NHI immediately with you.
Some related repeated conversations from the big thread.
First topic that is still confusing is how the Gold Card and NHI work together. I actually visited the NHI office today and was rejected. They told me that since I had no employer (my Gold Card category is a “freelancer”), I have a six month waiting period before I can apply. However, on the NIA link, https://www.immigration.gov.tw/ct.asp?xItem=1346583&ctNode=29991&mp=2 it clearly states that “According to the NIA, the benefits to the cardholder of the Employment Gold Card are… participating in …
Has anyone with the gold ARC and no employer registered for health insurance with the NHI? I see inconclusive information in this thread that suggests either one can get health insurance immediately with the gold card, or one has to wait 6 months without leaving Taiwan more than once and not for more than 30 days on that departure, which adds to the 6 months in Taiwan requirement… is it now known whether NHI eligibility is immediate for self-employment?
I should receive my gold ARC this week…
I think he maybe has that option because he was already in NHI by his previous employment. He can change his status.
you can check here. Contribution of employees is 30%, but if you are self-employed, it is 100%.

I just got some key information from the authorities of the Gold Card program today that I wanted to pass on to everyone via this thread, regarding NHI helath eligibility under the Gold Card program. This has been discussed in this thread earlier on and not answered fully.
If you come with your family on a Gold Card, you will only get NHI coverage right away IF you have a Taiwanese employer. If you are employed, you and your family will all get NHI with no waiting period. NHI will start on …
(We had a similar discussion in an other topic so I just copy here what I wrote there)
So today I have been consulting both with NIA - Employment Gold card representative (over the phone) and with my local representative (in person) and the conclusion is that actually the employment gold card is not so beneficial in all cases. If you already have a work ARC - that is the situation in my case - then in my opinion (also as suggested by NIA) you should not bother applying for the gold card since:
