Inexpensive basics are cheap. Rent is still generally fairly reasonable despite the recent increases. It’s easier to be poor in Taiwan than it is in my home country,

The fact that this thread has such a weak premise is a good thing. That a comfortable lifestyle that allows us to complain about petty things means that the good is the norm, and expected and that the bad is rare enough to be notable and surprising.
Really, good but not awesome could be the tagline for the whole place. I think I’ve described almost everything here that way. Someone once corroborated by saying things mostly work but putting up with minor inconveniences is Taiwanese (they’re Taiwanese btw)

Access to and quality of natural spaces is pretty awesome. The drive north up the east coast, the high mountains, the birds/flowers/butterflies. Taiwan is gorgeous. Isla Formosa, the beautiful island.
But everything else, I think good on a good day.
