Good Cities in Taiwan to Teach In

Does anyone have any recommendations about good cities to teach in in Taiwan? I realize that “good” is obviously subjective, so allow me to clarify what I mean by “good.” When I say

What cities have you been looking into? If you let us know maybe someone who has lived many places can do a comparison. I’ve only lived in Taipei so I can only comment on that. I’ve found everthing you have been looking for here. It may not be the cheapest place to live but I have been able to live a comfortable lifestyle and have been able to save a good amount.

Taipei. Forget the rest.

Man, yeah, based on that list of requirements, you’ve got to be talking about Taipei. Taipei city, mind you - not the county.

You may need to “lower” your expectations a bit.

I dunno - you can rent a suite in Taipei for $350-$500 USD/mth. In terms of big cities, that’s very cheap. I’m not sure how easily one could find such cheap accommodation in Beijing or Shanghai. The costs in those cities are rising dramatically.

Of course, in the southern areas of Taiwan, you could rent a sizeable flat (or even a house in some places) for $350. Of course, if you live outside of Taipei, almost everything else on the list would then have to be scratched off.

Taipei sounds the best for you if you can aford it. Good luck with your decision.

You are talking about Taipei.

I haven’t heard anybody mention this, so I will. Maybe it’s a secret.

Living in Panchiao is nice and cheap, and only 12-15 minutes from Chiang Tsi Tsuei or Hsinpu stations to Taipei Main Station by SUBWAY.

In the upcoming months, there are lots of cultural events, both western and eastern (local and foreign) right in this area, along with the monthly outdoor parties near the riverside park area!

And it’s not grimy like it was 5 years ago. Relative to the rest of Taipei If you live near the MRT’s, it’s pretty nice, and cheap.

Well, cheap if you aren’t picky bout living in older style buildings, which can be nice!!!

Maybe I’m just optimistic!! :bravo:

What do people here consider reasonable? 15000NT?

I pay 12,500 for 3 bedrooms near the MRT!.. less than 500US…

Rooms and shared kitchens I saw for 7000 NT

Bloody hell, you make working more than 30 hours a week sound like an injustice! You want to work less and make more money? You lazy git. There are millions who work double that for less than you expect. :unamused:

Don’t all teachers prep a couple hours for every hour they teach? That would make a 30 hr teaching schedule into a 60 hour week or more.

To answer the topic question I’ll join the choir and say Taipei.
