Thought it might be nice to report a very GOOD experience with the FAP, this morning in Taipei as I filed criminal charges for fraud against the Salvadoran national who has refused to honor a court order of payment for a debt (which equates to obtaining the money by fraudulent means).
It took me 30 minutes to convince the police I was on the up-and-up, but when they figured out that there was a legitimate complaint, they called the FAP, who sent over “Lillian”. She made helpful suggestions about the wording of the complaint (and, I must say, was far more literate than the cops filling out the forms), encouraged me to CHANGE the wording in one or two spots I didn’t feel expressed what I wanted to say, and – get this — a first during the entire time I’ve been in Taiwan – said a few words in Taiwanese, stopped, looked at me and said, “Oh, sorry, I should speak Mandaron, I was just saying that…”
Never thought I’d see the day.
