Anyone know a cheap place to buy PS3?
Any 3C store has them. Look out for the slim version. It’s a lot smaller, isn’t covered in stupid fingerprint magnet glossy black plastic and is almost silent when running.
A friend picked up a PS3 slim today with 2 controllers, some blockbuster BluRay vouchers and a carry bag for 12,000 NT. He didn’t say where he got it but I can ask him if you like.
When I was looking the prices were very consistent. Sony outlets in department stores had as good prices as anywhere.
RT Mart is selling off the older 80G models for 9999 now.

can you please ask your friend where did he buy it?
thanks
A guess–at Blockbuster. I know they sell them
Yeah I’ll ask him when I see him online. I wouldn’t mind picking one up at that price after I get settled in my new pad.
The PS3 is a brilliant BluRay player. It’s almost silent and it’s one of only a few that you can update the firmware every now and then to improve performance and add new features.
Oh- and it plays video games too I think
what about nova computer arcade?
i have been told that if i buy PS3 in Taiwan than the DVD code will be suitable for Taiwan only (and maybe the US as well…). anyway it wouldnt work at China or Europe. Is that so? and what is the meaning of this DVD code anyway?
The PS3 games are region free but the BluRay movies are region locked. HOWEVER - a LOT of BluRay big releases are region free - so they will work fine.
Correct, it will only play DVD’s from taiwan’s region, region 3, which also includes southeast asia and south korea. There’s no way to change it to region free I believe. So you’ll still need a cheapo dvd player for your overseas dvd’s.
The good news (for some of us) is Taiwan is in blu-ray region A which includes north and south america and japan as well as the countries in its dvd region.
doe’d this different apply also for games or just DVD movies?
For PS3 games, yes, they’re blu-ray. Like an unmodified PS2 US-bought PS2 games wouldn’t work, but most PS3 versions won’t play PS2 games.
Carrefour (Xindian) sells PS3 + Game (Platinium) + earphone for 11K
Actually only the 1st batch of PS3 sold in Japan (thus Taiwan and Hong Kong as well) contained an Emotion Engine chips but they quickly removed it to lower the production costs.
The PS3 hardware is perfectly capable of emulating PS1 (even the PSP can…) and de PS2 as well…wondering why Sony does nothing about it
i just got one last weekend at guanghua (the electronics mall at xinsheng/shimin). ps3 slim + extra controller + little big planet + hdmi cable ran me $13,400. should be $10,490 for only the system/included controller.
