I wonder if Google flipped the switch, or if this is just an anomaly. I got the little phone and “Call Phone” in my Gmail when I logged in this morning.
In mine too … and I called my home phone number … it worked!
It’s actually sweet … I bought some credit, twice in March … and I’m finally able to use it.
Calling China is cheap, both mobile and land line … 0.02 US$/minute
I called China for about 3 minutes or part there of … cost 0.06 US$, 1.733 NT$ …
Google Voice totally rocks! I use GrooVe IP to make Google Voice calls to the US on my Android… free…(I love free)
But … as I can see, it’s not yet possible being called or have one number for all your phones … so, only outgoing calls are possible. No SMS. Just basic calling!
I don’t understand your point…
In your settings, you can assign your Google Chat as your Google Voice callback. Then calls will be routed there…
My point? There is no point … it’s just calling phones from within Gmail. People can not call me in Google from a normal phone, it’s not possible as in the US getting one number that you can set to call all your other phones. I can not send SMS from within Google voice (Gmail) …
Sign into voice.google.com to send SMS.
If your Google Voice settings have your Google Chat as the designated callback number, when people in the US call your Google Voice number, the call should come to your computer.
Forgive me if I misunderstand the situation.
I don’t have a Google voice number … or do I? How do I know?
I can just make domestic and international calls from within Gmail.
See what happens when you go to voice.google.com . If you have a number, it will show up there. If you don’t, maybe you can get one.
I found the number I got last March when applying, but it doesn’t show up anywhere …
When I go to voice.google.com, my number is on the upper-right-hand corner.

I’m in the US right now, and I’ve been using the heck out of Google Voice to call people in the US for free. It’s very nice. Hopefully I can get a little use out of it from Taiwan too. It doesn’t look free to call the US from Taiwan, but rather 1 cent per minute. That’s still better than Skype.
Thanks for sharing that link, but unless I’m misunderstanding something, calls to/from any US number will still be free no matter where you are.
and
I just called my Google phone number, someone else answered the phone … I guess Google just gave it out again, to another account.
The same phone number appears on the upper right-hand corner of the voice.google.com page?
Yeah, I guess I missed that part. Good news then. Thanks Craig. I’m looking forward to trying it out sometime when I’m back in Taiwan.
The way it looks is that voice.google is not available in Taiwan the same way it does in the US … just outgoing calls are possible … domestic and international, mobile and land line …
When typing voice.google.com it redirects to google.com/voice
And you cant log in there to check your number?
