Can someone give me some tips or info of how to start a business in Taipei.
First of all, I am a Hong Kong and also Canada Citizen (so do my partner). We wanted to open a store in Taipei which sell clothes, etc…
We were trying to setup a Limited Company in Taipei, send in the application few weeks ago. Last week, we got a letter from Govt. and we went for a meeting with some govt. department.
They REJECTED our application, saying that we must have a Taiwanese in our company or a partnership with Taiwanese Company. This made us confuse.
Can anyone teach me how can I setup a company in Taiwan, seems like they don’t really like foreigner to start a business in here.
is there anyway to get the “limited company” setup without partnership?
Is there any company or govt. department I can talk to or look for?.. I will go to Taipei in person next week to fix it… but don’t know how…

What application are you referring to (initial company application or application for visa based on investment)?
Did you first make the application to remit capital from abroad?
Is a CPA handling this or are you handling it yourself?
Who did you send it to and who did you meet with? (‘government’ could refer to a hundred different offices)
What was the exact response and from who? (Tax office, MOEA?)
I think you have probably just misinterpreted the response, I need the information above to make any comment.
Also, do you have a resident visa or ARC for Taiwan? Are you planning to use your company to get one? Also, there is a distinction between foreign and local companies. Foreigners can indeed set up local companies, but there are parameters that need to be followed.
Setting up a company in Taiwan is possible, many people in the biz forums did so, but the method isn’t exactly like one would expect. Search the forums for answers, most are already there.

llary: i think we did the initial company application… and yes, there were a accountant who handle our apps. And All they said was that they can’t accept our company application beacause we r not taiwanese… we need a partnership…

I STRONGLY suggest you read the sticky threads, there’s more than enough information there to get you started, including contact information, suggested CPA’s and more.
I have sympathy with people who don’t know where to look for information on stuff that they need, but in this forum it’s pretty obvious to find this stuff. So please look there. There are few questions that haven’t already been asked here.
I have offered to give you free advice but it’s impossible to do that unless you answer the questions I posted above. I am struggling to believe you have gone through a CPA at all because even the most incompetent ones can at least get through the initial name approval and company registration.
Honestly this sort of thing just really frustrates me, I don’t even know why I bother replying.
