Gov't will protect foreigners if Taiwan is attacked?

Is there an article in the ROC Constitution like this one in Japan? Which article? Given that China is making farting noises again, just curious:

A friend in Tokyo sent me this note today:

The Japanese government will also protect and evacuate foreign
residents of Japan in the event of a military attack on Japan, the
government said Friday. The measure is based on an interpretation that the protection of
basic human rights stipulated in the Constitution can cover foreign
residents, the government said in a written response to a question by
an opposition lawmaker.

Taiwan will protect us?

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

Boy, I haven’t laughed that hard since I listened to ICRT earlier today…

Listened to ICRT?

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

If you are in Taiwan for a shorter period than 1 month, maybe you will think the government will look after you.
I must go with FFTASUCKS;

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

I’d lay down my life for my wife and son, but I wouldn’t be willing to die for Taiwan. The best situation for me would be to get us all to safety. That’s being honest, why on earth would I want to fight for Taiwan as it is. Would I fight for the bettlenut chewing xenophobe on the street, not a chance. Sorry, but this week I’ve heard too many snide anti-foreigner statements on the street and that is how I feel.

SteveZeAuthor never said that he hated Taiwan and I’d agree with what he said 100%. I’d fight for what is important to me and my family and even they want to get the hell out of here.

Thing is if they did start attacking… how would it be possible to get off the island… maybe you would have to wait it out
Another sort of frightening thing crossed my mind after reading about Chinese threats and intentions

What would happen in the following cases

  1. China invades this afternooon… how would I find or even get home to my wife ?

  2. What if I was out of the country? How would I get in or how could she get out

  3. What would your country’s stance on this be?

Would they “warn” China any deaths or targeting of their nationals would have reprucussions (which would amount to nothing)? Would my country actually give a shit and what could it actually do? Could they ensure protection for my wife since she is married to one of their nationals?

Is there any kind of law or regulation in the books here that talks about this, as in Japan there is? Maybe Hartzell knows. Or maybe someone who knows a politician can ask.

I believe that the USS Kitty Hawk will be sailing off the east coast of Taiwan tomorrow. I’m sure it is just a coincidence. :sunglasses:

Like what? Just curious. Here in Taipei I can’t remember the last time said something that I though was anti-foreigner And I’m pretty thin-skinned.

Your best bet would be to book a Suao based fishing boat to Okinawa.

Well lets just say I was in Japan and North Korea invaded
Would North Korea really care about any laws that Japan has to protect foreigners?
Would North Korea enforce these laws to protect foreigners?

Would this not fall under the jurisdiction of Military Law, International Law or the Geneva Convention???!!!. Would they invading force once they blow the shit out of the place be required to ship all foreigners ( those who have a passport but not ROC) off Taiwan while ensuring them safe passage??

Ok, second person to ask, so… just for an example of a more recent one…

at the place where I was buying shaved ice on Sunday the boss said that I was a great teacher and one of the other customers said…(in Taiwanese, my wife translated what I didn’t understand)

"F#@ing foreigners, English teachers. What's so special about those bastards, if I speak Shandi hua he won't understand. F#@#@ing idiots. "

To which the shaved ice seller replied, “he’s a great teacher / boss and is famous around here.”

The xenophobe replied, “bastards, useless apart from English and what’s so special about that.”

That doesn’t bother me so much and if he said it directly to me I wouldn’t care either but he didn’t. Shite, it was like I wasn’t even there. Was I astral travelling or something?

That is why I wouldn’t fight for Taiwan. I’d fight for NZ though. I wouldn’t want my son to fight for Taiwan either.

The 2 of you will have lots of company…it’s not as if the Taiwanese will be lining up to fight for Taiwan either, now is it?

Awww…someone needs a hug. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t hate Taiwan. Like anyone else, it has its good points and bad points for me, being a foreigner. Hell, a lot of times I can’t even stand my fellow countrymen and women when I’m back in the U.S. But, obviously it is my home and I would fight to the death for it. I would also fight for Mexico because it is my ancestral land and I have many family members residing there.

For obvious reasons, Taiwan doesn’t fill me with that same passion. But then again it’s not my place to fight for this island anyway. The locals and those of us in the expat community who have family here are the ones who should feel passionate about it, right? :s

Now, if my boys got involved and the Chinese attacked U.S. forces…then my tune would probably change. Meh. It’s all speculation at this point anyway. Let’s just hope this becomes simple posturing once again.

if they were to protect foreigners…i bet the americans would come in first…ARGH:( usa ass kissers annoy me.

OMG I am a white guy so you yellow monkeys must respect me. God forbid the whiteman faces racism and xenophobia.

haha, those Japanese americans who fought for the US during world war 2 must be really stupid then. The US government putting them in concentration camps and yet those idiots still fought for the US as second class citizens.

Samething goes for all blacks prior to 1960s who fought for the US. Why bother fighting for an Aryan Nation that treat blacks like crap?

The most valuable assets are always protected first.

No, we are first in line because of this:
