Grooveyard closed indefinitely (now re-opened)
Tai Chung’s Mystery Informant(s) struck again, late Friday night. Police received an anonymous call reporting Grooveyard for license violations. Management spent all day discussing the matter with police, and are convinced from the info given them, that the call was made by a competitor of some kind, intentionally informing on them.

Result:
Grooveyard, which the managers just spent 100s of hours and 100,000s NT re-doing is indefinitely closed. It is one thing to report a party and cause its cancelation, but to report a venue, especially an independent one that many members of the community play at and help with, is a real travesity.

I guess the only positive note is that now so many people have been effected by this, that they are starting to get serious about finding out who is doing it and why. At first it was just a few poor djs and organizers losing 100s of hours of work and lots of gigs, but now it is foreign venues, taiwanese venues, djs from taipei we never hear anymore, who would usually be down 5 or 10 times a year; magazines that are running out of venues to advertise in them, half the bands in town that just lost all their gigs at grooveyard. Its starting to cut deep, effect a lot of people and the financial damage done to the parties, venues, bands and djs is approaching 1,000,000NT
So, were they operating illegally?

The police are bound by law to investigate reports, even if its just a resident complaining about noise. If the cops visit and the club’s not legal or properly licensed, it can get shut down. If these clubs have such powerful connections, surely its up to them to pull the necessary strings to become legal. That way, the club just gets a ticket for noise.

It’s unlikely to have been just a noise complaint. The soundproofing was/is excellent. You couldn’t even hear the bands playing just downstairs in the Frog restaurant/bar below.

People hanging around on the street at closing time, etc. Anyway, the main point is, if the club’s properly licensed, there’s little the cops can do, right?

How will people get down with their bad selves?

Once again I ask, were they operating illegally? What were the license violations. I would guess it was something fairly serious to shut them down indefinitely.

It appears to me to the problem was the hours that live bands were finishing playing although really I have no idea what the exact violations were.

Thanks for the update. I’m happy to hear they are getting it all sorted out.
I am actually glad that they will start the live music earlier. Us old geezers need to get to bed earlier than you young 'uns.

I just have to say I was there last night for their open mic. Had a great time. Did a few minute set with my “friends” and really enjoyed it. Great crowd, fantastic music, and the Happy Hour prices are quite a deal.

I’ll go back again in the near future.

Matt

Does anthony realize this story is over a year old?? And the point of re-posting this is…??? :loco:

Didn’t get reposted. Got bumped. Just like you did here.

Just relating my experience that it was a good venue is all.
Thanks for asking!
