This is a great place for fixing , customising or setting up guitars or buying. Ten minutes walk from Gong Guan or Taipower building. I’ve had a preamp added and a botched up fix on a guitar refixed. You can negotiate on price.
I got a great - stellar - deal on my guitar in that shop. The set up was dodgy on the bridge. But for a cheap guitar it wouldn’t make sense for him to spend a load of time on that. I enjoyed tinkering with it to get it more playable to my style.
I’ll be back scouting for a made in China jazz base in the near future. Apparently those go for half nothing too so this will be my first port of call on the search

I think I went here… ten minutes walk from Taipower. They fixed my SG for 2000NT and something. It was a big mess, and he completely overhauled and cleaned it. Well worth the money, IMO.
You could make a Canjo bass. Taiwan Luthiers made me an awesome shovel guitar. Its the talk of the town.
Bass….a China base is a whole other deal
Who’s the best stand up bass player in Taipei?
I used to cycle round Kaohsiung on a purple pushbike, listening to Jump Monk. Happy times.
Those boulevards.
Back in 2020, he did my Ibanez for free as we had a close mutual friend. I bought a few sets of guitar strings from him for the service.
I sat with him as he did it. He did a good job. Meticulous.
So right now after a week of incessant fiddling with the set up all my fretted notes are coming out about 10% sharp on most, but not all strings, regardless of what I do with the bridge: so apparently that means the ‘nut is high’. So I think this is the end of the road for my tinkering as you can sand off - but not back on. I think I’ll head back and see if I can get one of those for free adjustments. ![]()
I went in again this evening. The insane value genuine fake strat was playing perfectly when capoed, but slightly wonky with open strings. He took his time and fiddled with it for twenty minutes and filed the nut. Polished the guitar with a cloth and now its playing close to perfect or even maybe perfect tune throughout.
Then for part deux:
I asked if I could take a look at the Jazz basses. Looking at one, made in Japan, second hand, 20,000. I’m like, ok, its a nice guitar but like, it doesn’t have the insane unreasonably good value thing. You don’t have any genuine fake made in China jazz basses? He laughs and he is like, oh, no, we don’t have any of those. Then he does a little incantation and there is a puff of smoke and he is holding this bass guitar. Strange thing this guitar has a name its called ‘Chris’. He hands it to me and says this is what you are looking for, 3, 000, it’s got a nice neck. I am like 3,000, NT? He is like yea, try it, insane value good guitar - 'basic bass’ for you.
So I fiddle around on this thing for a few minutes and I’ll be damned, it’s fine: I prefer it to the Japanese Jazz bases to be honest. So I am like but there is nothing wrong with it? He is like: Nope it’s good. Then he just beams up and disappears and now I am at home watching my all time favourite youtube channel ever - the flea: learn to play bass - except now I actually have a bass, called Chris, and it only cost the same as an overpriced meal for two.
Probably not going to be collabing with that guy, however if you are interested in hearing my collab with Chris the amazing magic bass send me a PM with your email and I’ll send it on. Just recorded it there ![]()
