Hajimemashite Yokosuka! USS George Washington in Japan!

(I apologize for the size of these two (2) pics. If some one can scale them down I would appreciate it)

Mobile Diplomacy in action.

USS George Washington makes historic arrival in Japan

A nice photo slide show here.

080925-N-9565D-001 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Sept. 25, 2008) Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) form the phrase “Hajimemashite,” which means “Nice to meet you” in Japanese, as they arrive at Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. George Washington and Carrier Air Wing 5 will be operating from Fleet Activities Yokosuka as the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier. I’m trying to get them to stop over in Kaohsiung. Sounds like a party!

That’s a big, bad boat.

:America:

Very cool pics.

Anybody know what the Japanese characters on the flight deck mean?

Dude, read the story!
Hajimemashite.

Duh.

Thanks for posting this, TC. I just skipped right over your text.

I saw the USS George Washington depart Norfolk last April. I was standing on Virginia Beach up around 72nd street. That is one humongous ass ship, believe me.

The Chinese would get all upset if the boat stopped in at Kaohsiung.

Naw, it would all blow over as long as the Captain said they were only stopping for some seafood at Chichin island. Food diplomacy.

Makes sense to me cept that the ship is almost as big as chichin island??
