Halliburton -- Hail to the Thief!

The top civilian contracting official for the Army Corps of Engineers, charging that the Army granted the Halliburton Company large contracts for work in Iraq and the Balkans without following rules designed to ensure competition and fair prices to the government, has called for a high-level investigation of what she described as threats to the “integrity of the federal contracting program.”

Bet the Republicans will come up with an appropriately flip-floppish litany of arguments on how this whole Halliburton nonsense is “good” for competition, how the official “must” be a Democrat, and then make up speculative arguments about how the official’s timing must be related to the election.

However, as usual, the Republicans will offer no factual support for their views. Perhaps we can count on at least one forum poster to say that the official is a liar and for one or two others to mischaracterize U.S. laws or legal practice along the way.
