So I managed to get my hands on a bike for transportation, but I’ve’ already gotten lost several times and am getting pretty sick of it.

Does anywhere know where to get a portable GPS with city maps?

You can get Garmin ones, with bike mountings around. Just check on their website and I am sure they have local distributors listed.
The problem might be that, although they will give instructions like turn left in 20 meters in English, the maps will be in Chinese.
