Happy 183 days!

For those who are counting, today is the 183rd day of the year!
This means we are officially in the second half of 2021!
Here’s to hope we have a better rest of the year to come!
:beers:

More importantly, isn’t this also the point where the tax withholding rate for employed people dramatically increases? I meant “decreases” here, obviously.

Assuming you have been in Taiwan since January 1.

Some folks have still been travelling . . .

There’s some good news. For those of us on a monthly salary, is it certain that July salary will be taxed at 5%, or whatever the lower rate is?

I think it depends on your arrangement with the company.
Also, some seem to “forget” it and keep withholding the same taxes for the whole year…

You need to arrange this with your employer.

nah; probably not. Although I do enjoy an occasional romp into confusion and misunderstanding because of the language barrier, and by ‘enjoy’ I mean loathe, I’ll avoid that altogether. A ‘yes’ or ‘no’ would make managing the budget more clear, but ‘it depends’ is not a surprise so that’s OK too.

Suit yourself. Tax withholding is not something set in stone, except for those first 183 days when employers do not want to expose themselves to liability if their employee suddenly leaves the country (i.e. NOT your case). :slightly_smiling_face:
