Hard Drive Repair?

Our hard drive started making funny noises and had to be replaced. There are some items not saved to disk that I would love to retrieve. I’ve been told that the ‘pin’ or whatever it is that ‘reads’ the drive is broken. Any ideas where I might get that fixed?

Here’s hopin’!

Cheers,

I guess they mean the reading head (one of them). If that’s broken repair will be costly. So costly that it’s usually only worth if the loss of data does have a big financial impact (on your business or whatever).

See the related thread in the tech forum however: [HDD Recovery Specialists in Taiwan?

Whether you bought it there or not, many of (all?)the 3C computer stores in Taipei will repair your computer, for a cost. Based on my personal experience iwth 3C, they have been fairly cheap and friendly and since it’s a chain, the work is guaranteed. My hard drive also died, and it turned out it was just cheaper to replace it, as Rascal says.
My friend highly recommends the Aurora chain, says it’s better than 3C, though I’ve never gone their myself.
Hope this helps
