Health insurance and ARC extension

Will I still be able to enjoy NHI benefits even when I am not employed?

My contract will end July 31 and my ARC expires the same day. I am planning to request for an ARC extension to undergo a medical procedure and for my recovery period before hopping on a plane.

I could try, but I am not sure if I can have the procedure done days before the ARC expiry.

The validity of NHI and ARC are two different things, so extending your ARC won’t automatically give you access to the NHI. Presumably, your employer will notify the NHI once your contract ends, so that will cancel your insurance, but not sure if you lose benefits immediately or after a prescribed period.

I think it takes them one month to cut it off (the insurance, not an appendage) but I may wrong. I presume you have already presented at a hospital in which case you should ask them. You might be able to pre-pay for the procedure.

I should definitely ask NHI then.

I’ve talked with my doctor and he’s recommended a hospital already. I should ask about pre-paying. I do hope I get to benefit from the labor insurance as well (but that’s a story for a different forum I guess).

You got me chucklin’ there…

As I’m aware , as long as you have a valid arc you can get nhi, you just need to pay for it yourself as your employer won’t be.

Get yourself down to nhi and ask them, as I know they will set you up to pay yourself monthly
