I contacted a hospital (WanFang) to find out about their health screening tests. They say that it’s NOT covered by National Health Insurance. (the most complete check is NT$35,000)
I’m a bit disappointed that it’s not covered by NHI.
Has anyone heard of health screening in Taiwan that IS covered by NHI?
Is it normal for health screening to NOT be covered by NHI?
I had one done a few years ago for 6k.
Not covered by health insurance. It seemed relatively comprehensive.
For 35k I would expect the Japanese nurse treatment I saw on youporn last week. Now that was comprehensive.
In most cases, a yearly health check is a personal benefit provided by your employer. Has nothing to do with the government supported NHI.
Prices vary from 20 to 170 K NTD depending of the program.
The price sounds correct - it’s an all-day workup in many events.
It’s generally covered by employers.
Normal health screening -blood work, maybe X rays- basic stuff is NHI covered, you just have to get the doctor to ask for it. For example, the sleep test -where you spend the night at the hospital- normally costs at least 5000nts, but I got it free from NHI because the doctor requested it. So basic stuff is covered indeed.
The ones that cost 17 up -I know, I’ve looked - then 35 then 45 then 75K, etc. are usually with the perks, like no pain endoscopy and stuff like that, or MRIs included. Depends on what you want. And as stated, you get 5 star hotel treatment, bathrobe, your own personal nurse, etc.

Christ if you’re disappinted by that wait until you have to have something major done. One of the reasons the health service works so well is that quite a lot that would be covered in other countries, just isn’t here.
It’s not covered and yes it’s normal.
35k will be really comprehensive. They’ll have a range of packages that you can choose from but unless you’re feeling really crap then a 6k will be sufficient.

OK, what am I missing here? I get the free bi-yearly health check for being over 40. The exam is administered by the “family health” doctor or GP in the hospital. they take blood work and did an ultrasound of the major organs.
Is this comprehensive enough?
What about the 6K plus exam? Can you recommend any places in Kaohsiung to get a good exam and follow up if something is found?

Yep. That’s why I have private insurance. It isn’t much money per year and if I get sick I’ll save a lot on proper medication…
