Helicopter tours....rentals?

I want to rent a helicopter for my girlfriend’s birthday which is coming up soon. Any ideas?

I thought private helicopters are illegal ?

If you have the $$$s then take a trip either to HK/Macau and then take the chopper between the two. If you are only going to do it one way I suggest taking the boat to Macau from Hk and then chopper back as landing between the 2 towers at HK is quite impressive. Ride itself is not crazy expensive but it is only about 15 minutes.

Another alternative is Angkor in Cambodia. The scenery would be magnificent and it is cheaper per flight than HK but of course more expensive to get there. Not sure whether you can trust the maintenance crews there or not either.

So you can’t take a helicopter to Kenting or something?

I do remember seeing a place in Kenting where you can take a helicopter tour, but that is all I remember.

And yes, the helicopter ride from Maccau to HK is very nice indeed and not too expensive considering the time saved.

There was a company that had helicopter connections to some cities/islands, the thing is I don’t have the details. Picked it up from someone and in the news a couple of years back …

i typed in “helicopter ride taiwain” and found this article about helicopter rides between the Matsu islands, not sure if it is helpful.

Here is a link for Kenting, looks like babel translation so not sure if the word helicopter really means helicopter, hahah

and another for orchid island

Couple of good ones there. thanks for those…you going karting tomorrow? Nonsequitor is offering a ride to anyone in Taipei.

Mordeth, there are much cheaper ways of making your girlfriend puke in your lap.
My friend took a chopper to Lanyu once, I believe, but I think its one of those really big ones, so it basically felt like a plane but much much noisier. I guess you’ll be wanting one of those little ones with the perspex bubble canopy?

Yes, that’s how I imangined it (the perspex bubble…not the puking).

Ask Prototw about getting a free helicopter ride… :smiling_imp:

Any ideas?[/quote]I read in the paper a while ago about a company that offers 20-minute rides above Taipei. It wasn’t cheap though. I don’t remember exactly how much, but it was a few thousand NT at least.

I’d love to learn how to fly one. Any place to learn?

I’d be interested in that, even if it was a few thousand NT. Any idea where you saw it?

Yes, Flightsimulator X …

Learning flying a chopper is about the most expensive you can do in aviation … chopper cost about 30,000-40,000 NT$ per hour

That flight from HK to Macau at HK$1,750 is around the same as an economy class return and hotel for two nights in Taipei, which is why I’ll never board it unless someone else is paying.

There is a far cheaper way to get a chopper here, well sort of; have a heart attack while out hiking. Emergency choppers are free of charge in HK.
