Sorry to interrupt but can someone explain why a Bank statement from January this year should have 1998 on it? I know its something to do with 1912 but a full explanation (In English) would be great

I doubt it had 1998 on it - probably just 98. 1911 marks the first year of the Republic of China, and in Taiwan all years count down (up) from it.
Yes you are right! 98/01/13. Sorry, I meant 1911 not 1912.
