Help in Taichung, looking for 2nd Honda NSR or CBR

Hello fellow forumosans,

I’ve been following this forum for quite some time and have decided to go with a motorcycle instead of a scooter. I’ve narrowed my options down to 3 different bikes.

  1. Honda NSR 150 Used
  2. Honda CBR 150 Used or maybe finance New
  3. Yamaha FZR 150

I’ve searched yahoo already and so far no luck in finding either one of those bikes. If anyone here on this forum can help direct me to a reputable 2nd hand bike shop in Taichung that might carry any of these bikes, your help is greatly appreciated. My budget is somewhere around 50k. If anyone here has owned any one of these bikes, your comments and recommendations are welcomed!

Thanks in advance,

Rich

there’s 2nd hand FZRs for sale everywhere… one store on jien-cheng rd. has heaps of them outside quite a few of them with the “R1” clone heads on them… doesn’t look anything like an R1… and i don’t think you can get new FZRs… also don’t forget the FZ - the naked FZR

NSRs… try TSC (Jien-cheng Rd. again, BIG shop) or their partner GP-Dream (Si-tun Rd., turn north from Wen-shin Rd. and continue up for a bit - though feel free to drop in at 00 who are located basically on that corner)

CBR150… a rarity… TSC have one i’ve seen before… but it’s new…

what area of Taichung are you in?

PS. TSC specialise in racing NSRs… so they know their stuff when it comes to that bike, and they together with GP-Dream manufacture a lot of their own stuff and have quite a name for small bike modification… but as with all big shops, they aren’t the cheapest…

Thanks a lot for the help, x08! I’ve been browsing through your pics and I actually wanted to get myself a used honda hornet 250 because back home in the states, I ride a honda cbr f2 and I love the way hondas are built and how they handle. For now, I’m going with a honda nsr and hopefully save up some money to get a decent used hornet so I can ride with the big boys.

Rich

the NSR is a match for the hornet in a straight line…

in corners it’s lighter, but doesn’t have the nice big tires, hence less grip… so they both have advantages over the other…

our club is open to any bikes that wish to ride… we’ve had FZRs and even a majesty join us before… despite the fact that we’re “big bikes”

If you get an NSR…I’d reccomend not buying from a shop. The quality of NSRs varies greatly. I’ve tried quite a few at shops…(I had one and my roommate wanted one) and they didn’t even have half the power of my own. There is usually some racing ones on Yahoo…for less than 50k. Or you need to find a mod shop…that is used to rebuilding NSRs for racing. Not because you want to race them…but because these will be the only people somewhat qualified to fix/rebuild them.

Ethier buy a costly one that kicks ass right off the bat. Or buy the cheapest piece of shit you can find…and rebuild it from the ground up. That’s my advice. NSRs rock.

Excellent advice.

As Mordeth said, take a look on www.yahoo.com.tw, in the auction section. Type NSR or NSR150 in the search box. You’ll need someone who can read Chinese to help you. There are usually a few gems there for really good prices. NSRs are great little bikes which, if set up properly, can be very fast. Best thing outside of a yellow plate bike, IMO.

Yeah me too, ive already got a white plate liscense and ive really been wanting to move from a crappy automatic scotter to anything with a manual transmission. These xxR’s in the 150 have seemed to have enough oomph to move my 90Kg and be enjoyable enough on my daily hour of commuting, but i know crap all about them.

If there is any advice for southern taipei-county/city (Xin-dien) area im open to knowing where the decent bike shops are located, so i could go have a look at an NSR, or the CBR/FZR. Course in taipei anywhere that is within pretty easy reach would be cool too.

Second hand is the big idea here, since im not making loads of money doing my computer junk in this country, and have 0 desire to teach english in my spare time.

didn’t he say he’s already had a look on yahoo? i had a look and there isn’t a heap in taichung…

as for shops… i will agree with mordeth on that one… but as i said, TSC professionally race NSRs and are also well known for modding other small capacity bikes… if u want to check them out and need directions, give me a PM and i can help ya out…

What about a TZR 250? They handle like a big bike in more ways than a NSR would.

I love the idea of a 250cc two-stroke as well, but they won’t pass emissions, hence illegal.

So do I, but unfortunately they’re completely illegal here. :frowning:

you can get temp plates on a 250 2-smoke… but won’t be able to register it because it won’t pass the emissions test…

there are a few Aprilia RS250s around too… but they’re rare as all heck… and of course ----- unregistered…

A guy I know has one. They found a wrecked 150 Aprilia and used its plates to insure the 250. So he has a “legal” 250 now…lucky bastard.

So, could the same thing be done with a wrecked NSR150 to sort out a NSR250? :ponder:

I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that it may “SQUEAL/delete” me. :sunglasses:
