Help me settle a dilemma

WARNING: LONG-ISH POST

I have 2 room mates and at least 1 of them and I always put our receipts in a pile.

Anyways, my taiwanese gf decides to match them up. I’ve already said in the past that I don’t care about the receipts because I’ve never won (been here 5 years) so it’s not worth my time. Anyways, she notices a bunch outdated and throws them away. Some are not and turns out there are 2 200nt winners. We both look at the 2 winning receipts and it’s obv that neither one of them could be mine. Then she asks if she could keep them. I said no and she gets mad. I told her how am I supposed to give her something that isn’t mine. Her response was that it’s been sitting there so long and no one’s matching them and a bunch is expired anyway. If she leaves it there, it’ll probably go expired anyway. I then told her that my roommates and I already agreed to whoever wants to match it up can do it (and split it, but I didn’t say the splitting part to her), but we’re all just pretty lazy. I also said it didn’t matter because it’s not hers and taking it would be stealing. She says it isn’t stealing because she’s telling me. I said it’s not mine, how can I give permission? Anyways, she feels she’s entitled to it because it was just going to sit being wasted and she matched them up. She’s all pissed now and says ok, she’ll just put them all together and put it back where she found them and let it sit there. I’m not allowed to tell my room mates and since I don’t care about them, I can’t look at them either.

What am I supposed to do here? Tell her to split it? Does she even want to? She never suggested it. A few months back, she did the same thing and found 2 200nt winners and kept it all for herself after she said she’d redeem it for me, but then asked to keep it (again, it was obv neither of those 2 receipts were mine neither). I know I said I didn’t care about it, but last time it was mixed with my roommate(s) too. I totally forgot about it this time or I woulda said don’t match them up.

I thought this was heading towards a million dollar receipt or something. All of this drama over 400NT? Seriously? Who the hell cares? I seriously doubt that your roommates do.

I would suggest a bit of testosterone therapy…and look for a new “girlfriend.”

You guys have a lot of time on your hands to be arguing about things like that…

I wouldn’t have got into an argument over something so petty… but to each his own.

Haha! Wait until you two get married. Ahhhh, Taiwanese women and money.

put it back and let it go to waste. If your flatmates match it up, awesome, if not, it’s not like it was money that was lost. That money doesn’t exist until you turn it in. If you give it to your gf and your flatmates find out, it will be hell, if you tell your flatmates, your gf will hate you. From now on, just keep your own receipts in your room.

and really, if my gf was mad at me over this, she wouldn’t be mine anymore.

put a match to them…always up the drama ante, it makes life more interesting.

let your gf redeem and keep the money, then give your room mates their share. you’ll have peace of mind that would cost you a total of NT$400!

Donate it to charity. (Doesn’t 7-Eleven have plastic boxes where you can donate your receipts to the Red Cross or something?) That way you can all share the good karma points, and your girlfriend can experience the torture she deserves! I mean, she’ll steam as she watches the winning receipt go into the box, but she won’t be able to say anything, because who could object to charity? Heeheehee…

I just wasted $400NT of my time reading that.

I’ve only heard your side, but from what you said…

I would give her the 400nt and tell her it’s over. She’s stolen money from you before and is causing a big furore over two receipts which you’ve said don’t belong to her. You feel like you can’t admit to her that you and your roommates agreed to split the money. She’s telling you that you’re not allowed to look at something in your own room, which implies to me that she’s going to take them anyway when you’re not looking.

Can’t be trusted. 400NT is a small price to pay for peace of mind and the chance to find someone better.

seriously…400 nt?

seriously?

i mean, seriously, youre not joking?

one more time, really, 400 nt?

one more question…

youre still with her after this?

(really, 400 nt?)

Hell, give her NT$500 and call a taxi for her.

Adios chica, asta luego !

Ya’ll are saying “Really? 400nt?” but this isn’t really about 400nt. There’s a lot more going on here than 400nt. This is a weird power struggle in a bad relationship.

She sounds scary. I would run the other direction.

I think they both sound pretty irrational. I can definitely see the girlfriend’s point - clearly if she doesn’t redeem the receipts, then nobody is going to do it, so why waste the 400nt? And if she’s going to do the work of digging them out, doing the matching, then redeeming them, she should at least get a cut. And why doesn’t the OP just tell her that the roommates have agreed to split it? Or tell her that he’ll ask the roommates if they mind just giving it her? Or suggest that they use it to buy household supplies or something for everyone to share? Or something useful. His reaction just seems strange and counterproductive. The original owner of the receipt is irrelevant - once it’s in the pot, it’s in the pot. The order to not look at them/tell the roommates just seems like it’s just meant to prove the point that the only way they’ll get redeemed is if she does it.

a few simple tommy thoughts here:

dont separate a TW girl from MONEY (if you dont have to) !!!

its so tiny an amount who the FUCK really cares dude !!!

give it to her, get a happy girl back in return - why have it the other way for so little cost??

pay ur bud 200 out of the 400 she got if you feel you need to, but honestly im not sure he even really cares.

from now on, give her all the receipts and tell her all prizes won are her’s alone, shes doing the work matching the little pieces of paper (and its a lot of work). Tell your friend he can either agree to give them to her or just keep his to himself or he can dump em in the charity bins at the seven.

i feel your relationship is not sufficiently blessed to be arguing over such pettiness.

make it work or break it up, it aint gonna get better unless you make it better.

who the hell fights over a lousy 400 nt from receipts???
Sorry dude but you are acting so NOT a man… instead you are acting like a BOY (just tellin it like i see it). Why not be generous with your lady. Show her more love.

Girls love a bit of extra cash, give it to em, get way more in return.

This thread is over, the Tomster has spoken.

Wow.

I hope she’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever set eyes on.
I think the easiest way to resolve matters like this is to give your roommates their split (out of your own pocket) and let your gf keep the money.
I think it’s the act of “finding” money that arouses her passions, not really the $400NT. Don’t get all ethical on her, lest she dismiss you objections as “strange foreigner thinking too much” and take the receipts without your knowledge. Right now she’s telling you, so you have the option of covering for her.

I think when it gets to be where she just takes things or makes decisions involving community property without telling you, no amount of hotness can make up for.

Don’t any of you see the irony in your posts? You advise someone to break up with a girl over 400nt. :astonished: :astonished: Would YOU break up with your partner over a 400nt conversation? I mean, seriously, don’t you see it? The sheer balls out madness of telling someone else, a stranger no less, that YOU SUGGEST this is a conversation which YOU’D end a relationship over. If that is the case I am surprised you people are ever in relationships for more that 20 seconds. “Honey I want to watch…” “Well, I don’t. Deal breaker. Get your shit and fuck off you nutjob.”

A:I had a row with my gf/lover/partner/wife over 400nt.
B:Your other half sounds mental you should leave her.

Yeah, great advice, break up over 400nt.

The OP should have said to the girl, “yeah just keep them,” and then tell her not to ever tell the guys she took the receipts. No real harm done there. He can make it up to his buddies buy leaving a couple hundred nt in coins lying around that will eventually get used. Or just leave a few beers in the fridge or something.

You don’t go telling people they should leave their partner because they had a conversation about the moral ethics of this 400nt.

A: Hey my girlfriend bought a new bag.
B: Woah, don’t be so surface thinking dude. next thing you know she’ll be buying make-up and underwear and shit without even ASKING for your permission. She is a crazy bitch and you need to break up with her.

A: Hey my partner wore a coat out yesterday and I didn’t think it was that cold out
B: Dude, break up with her, thats psycho tendency behaviour right there.

A: I like cheese in my sandw…
B: Hold it right there, I know where this is going, just break up with your girlfriend. I’d change the locks and leave her shit burning in a box on the front lawn just to show her how crazy SHE is.

Now I need to go away and break up with myself for waking up earlier than I wanted. I’m dumping the shit out of myself and running away to a place where I can’t find myself, otherwise I’m gonna set gangsters onto myself.
