Well, it’s taken a while but the new Highway 11 Magazine website is up and running! It’s got all sorts of stuff including east coast maps, a public events calendar (you can add your own events!), business directories, classifieds, blog capability and all the articles you’ve come to expect from the magazine (if you’ve seen it around). I’m pretty proud of it if I may say so, but any comments or criticism is encouraged. It’s the only way to improve.
Come check it out. Link it, add to the directory, pass it around. Spread the word and all that!
Highway 11 Magazine online is up and running for April. Remember that
your visiting the site helps our little magazine grow everytime you
click on it so revisit, bookmark, etc…
Use it to promote your events. Comment on it. Link it. Pass it on!
Reminder – May is the annual Highway 11 Photo issue. If you have
photos that you would like to submit (preferably taken in Taiwan, but
it’s not necessary), please send them my way before the April 7th
deadline. Photos should be print ready (300 dpi or higher) and please
limit your submissions to 20 photos so that we aren’t inundated with
jpegs.
Thanks again, everyone for your continued support. It is really appreciated.
The May Photo issue is (mostly) up. Uploading 200 photos takes a long time. I hope there are no glitches. If there are, please let me know. Still have to upload the restaurant reviews and the winners of the photo contest (thanks to everyone here that entered… tough decisions indeed) and I was thinking that I would do a slideshow of a few prominent photographers throughout the month (to keep the site more fluid). So anyway, here’s the link for anyone so inclined.
As well, you can find your hard copy all over the island (most notably at Eslite bookstores).
The June issue of Highway 11 magazine is out. You can find it in hundreds of locations around Taiwan. in fact we have oincreased the print run this month so it should be a bit more visible, most notably in Taipei where i am trying to flood the city. If anyone is interested in writing articles about Taipei and the surrounding area, I’m also looking for writers. PM me if you are interested. Thanks to everyone for supporting our little magazine and enjoy.
Some of the finer Taiwan locations where you can find the hardcopy include: Eslite bookstores, In Taipei: Sababa Pita Bar, Alleycat’s Pizza, Bongos, Forkers, Jake’s Country Kitchen, Grandma Nitti’s, and The Tavern. In Tainan: Hud La Voos. In Taichung: The Frog, as well as Kaoshiung, Chiayi, Changhua and, of course, all over Hualien, Taitung and Yilan.
Keep up the good work guys! I spent four-plus years working for a city guide company (COMPASS taiwanfun) so I know it’s a difficult industry to be in. Highway 11’s a good read.
The July issue of Highway 11 Magazine is up at en.highway11.net/ in English). For those who receive the print edition, you will be interested to note that July marks our expansion to 36 pages!
This month you will find:
Traditional Stone Houses on Penghu
Part II of Taiwan’s Microbrews
The Art of Yilan’s Hack Welder
Traveling to Wulai
The Taipei Film Festival
The Vagina Monologues in Hualien?
Please take a moment to drop by and leave a comment.
Not sure if this is post worthy, but in Safari 3.1.1 the Chinese website doesn’t render quite right. The menu section acts a little strange. I’ve included a link to a screenshot:
EDIT: I should add that the English version of the site renders just fine.
Ultra Marathons
Solo Travel
Chinese Immigrants in England
Patios
Fish Farming
Once again, thanks for all the support over the past few months. If anyone is interested in subscribing to the print version of the magazine, pm me directly and I will let you know how it’s done.
Apparently there was a slight glitch in the Highway 11 site recently and it was not entirely accessible. Just wanted to leave a quick note that www.highway11.net is up and running as well as ever.
Congratulations, your site is fun and informative and I have picked up your magazine around Taipei on occasion, as well.
One quick comment: I was browsing the accomodations section and notice that none of the places have links or website addresses listed. This makes actually looking at the places a little difficult: start a new search, cut, paste…would it be possible to add links to their individual websites?
Pedaling Across Northern Taiwan

As well, a notice to everyone that effective Januray 2009, Highway 11 Magazine will be a quarterly print magazine and a continuously updated website. The print magazine will be thicker, more focused and will have a wider distribution.
(most of) The Winter issue of Highway 11 is available for viewing on the website. What hasn’t been posted will be up over the next week or so as well as new material unavailable in the print version:
Since we aren’t updating once a month but once ever few days, there’s always something new on the site. I’ll post back here once a month or so to remind everyone that we are still here.
