Sorry, I’m too exuberant sometimes. This is a new thread separating posts from my hijacking of haokaiyang’s thread. If you feel your post should be in the original please let me know by PM and I’ll move it.
Back in my really poor days, I couldn’t afford to spend more than NT$100 a meal. Now I spend more than that for practically every meal, and it’s starting to add up. The only cheap place I still eat at a lot is Subway, and I’m getting pretty sick of it.
Now, I know there are inexpensive places to eat all over the city; the problem is that few of them are any good (in my opinion, anyway). So I thought, maybe if we Forumosans mine our collective stores of knowledge, we could come up with a list of cheap but good eateries.
The rule: It’s OK if some things on the menu cost more than NT$100, you just have to be able to get full less than that without undue gastronomical or gastrointestinal suffering. Fair enough?
And one person (not sharing) is $100, ok? Eat satisfied, eat happy, for $100, ok with you haokaiyan? Great thread if that is the case.
under $100 for one person (not per person)
satisfied,
full meal,
wow I think you have really pushed us here but I for one need to think of something. Most places only meet 2 of those at best. Give me a second before someone mentions the mcdonald’s double beef, which at 39 might fulfill at least two of those for some.
And with change to spare. Lili, wins this for today. All three in a matter of seconds.
I could go with the two tea eggs and fruit, but a baked sweet potato?

Ok Lilli wins round one for breakfast.
If it is ok with haokaiyang,(if not pm me) now we move on to round two lunch for one for under $100 and the same three requirements. But feel free to add even better suggestions for breakfast if you think you can beat Lilli’s.
How about a great meal?! for under $100? Tacos2go, 2 tacos, or a quesadilla, for $89.
Across from NTU.
OK, tango42 is the leader for recommends on a complete lunch under $100.
Leaders:
Breakfast: Lilli
Lunch: tango42 (although actually it may not be considered complete to fulfill all three requirements. argue your piece for further consideration.)
Dinner: none

They meet the OP’s question, but for many none of those fulfill all three later listed requirements, do they?
One dish does not a meal make. Lilli has 2 eggs, a baked yam, and fruit for way under $100. There are many filling dishes for under $100 but what about a variety? Of course you can get a big bowl of noodles but that isn’t the point of a good meal, is it? It should have at least several things to round out the meal so it isn’t just one dish. So that is why Lilli so far is the leader for breakfast. If someone can put a tea or coffee in there for under 100 they will be the winner.
Still waiting on full complete good meals for under $100 for lunch and dinner.
I’ve only gotten to the chicken rice next to the KFC across from the Ambassador Cinema theater for $35, the fresh fruit outside the theater and a beer at family next to the cinema. Total under $100. Their chicken rice is great (they have a picture of A.J. on their ad) and the fruit is recently cut/harvested but I’m sure almost anyone can beat that list. I’m still working on it.
