Hiking: Return to Wuliao Jian - Dec 18

Yes, we are going back to this knife edged ridge on the outskirts of Sanxia. For those of you who have not done this before, plan to come along. It is one of my favorite hikes. More challenging physically and mentally than Huang Didian, this hike is one you feel great after finishing.

The old thread on this is down, but I’ll repost my description later. In general this is a 3.5 hour hike with a further 1.5 hour option near the end. I’d like to do the longer route this time but it will depend on how the group feels. The last part is the trickiest so we want to make sure everyone is still energetic enough to complete it safely. The long rope descent and other sections on the shorter route can really tire people out.

We will go on Sunday, not Saturday so I hope to see Limey out there.

It is important everyone pipes in early so we know how many are coming. Most likely some will have to take a train down to Yingge. If the rats and Ironman are coming hopefully they can pick up these people at the train station. If not then they can take a taxi and follow me (this is what we did last time). The fair to the trailhead was about NT350.

Last time we were able to get taxis back to Yingge at the end of the trail in the temple.

This hike is a great one. Don’t miss it. One day only.

I definitely want to hike this one. I missed it the first time, and I think I should be able to handle the longer hike if we’re able to do that. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I fear the rain more than the cold.

If someone is able to offer me a ride, it would be most appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing some of you guys again. I’m all moved into my new place, so it’s time to get out and hike again. All unpacking and no play make Scott a dull boy.

Yes, we plan on going.

I’m going to bring a pair of those gloves that local hikers like to use. It’s a good idea for that long descent down that steep rocky face holding onto that knotted rope!

I’ll bring those size 13 river tracing boots for you. Who knows, you may find a use for them.

She’s away. The Lime is a free boy. Tell us more. Chris you mentioned gloves. Why?

I need a lift if anyone is planning on going. I can’t ride the scooter from Bali to Sanxia, can I? Nooo, don’t be silly.

Looking forward to it. Hope the weather holds out.

Ok, I really need everyone to pipe in asap. I have my car, but we will need at least two.

My car:
me
my wife
Chris
Kitty
scott

Others going:
Limey
Seeker4?
the rats?

Ironman and Mr He are meeting Maoman for a lunch on Sunday so they are out.

If the Rats go can they pick up the other 2? It is asking too much for you guys to come to Taipei since you are coming from the south so meeting at Yingge train station would be great. Actually better is for the two to take a taxi from Yingge station to the traffic triangle in Sanxia (I’ll explain where that is later). This would be more convenient as it is awkward to drive into Yingge.

Anyway, it all depends if the rats are going or not.

So pleeeeeasse, everyone, make up your mind by Thursday at the latest.

I can scooter it over to Linkou if that makes it easy for you guys, you can then get on the freeway.

Just so you know, I’m not able to go this weekend.

Sounds like an interesting hike. We are in.

Limey: It would be great if you could stop here in Linkou. We can either meet at the Chang Gung hospital, or if you are worried about your scooter there, you could come to our community.

seeker4: We could pick you up in Yingge, if I can find the train station. I know how to get to the museum though. Other option would be that you take a bus to Linkou Chang Gung. You could catch one on Minquan Rd. just by the Zhongshan MRT (brown line) or on Chong Qinq N. Rd, on the south side of the freeway. I can give you details after you decide which route you want to take.

It’s on Sunday Rat, just to clarify that in case you missed it.

Acknowledged!!

Thanks Rattie,

PM for you. How’s the weather shaping up? Cold, wet, miserable. Well I bettter get used to it before I return to Limeland next week.

L.

Damn, I want to have my cake and eat it as well. Bugger.

Have fun guys.

OK, weather permitting, I’m in. My SO will accompany, but only to ride and waste time in Yingge until the hike is over. She is always up for dinner at the end!

As for weather, at the moment is looks clear, or partly cloudy, temps 9-17.

At the moment, we will be driving a car with space for either zero, one, or two extra people … or three midgets. Aren’t you glad I cleared that up?

I’ll know by tomorrow how much space we’ll have in the car.

Mucha Man: What are the particulars? Meeting place, start time, end time, after hike dinner place, who’s carrying my backpack for me, etc? (You know it’s my job to bug you for this stuff every time).

Ratlung: Thanks for the offer of a ride. I will use the bus plus that offer as my backup plan.

Limey: Unless you just want to ride your scooter all the way to wherever, you’d be a logical candidate to ride with me, if we have space.

Chris: How are you and Kitty getting there?

All: Fair warning - If I wake up on Sunday and the sky looks for shit, I’m crawling back in bed. In that event, any who planned to ride with me will be getting there some other way. Of course, I would give as much advance notice as possible if I have phone numbers. Backup plans would be wise in any case.

Seeker4

I’ve been waiting until everyone pipes in before announcing times as I want to make sure we all are up for dinner afterwards.

The hike will take 4-6 hours (generous time frames) depending on whether we feel up to doing the last section or not. The plan is to do it, but again, it will depend how tired people’s arms feel.

Since we want to catch dinner, we don’t need to start till around 11am. That means meeting in Sanxia at 10:30. The rats should remember how to get to the traffic roundabout triangle so let’s meet there, same place as last time. Seeker4, can you meet us in Muzha and follow?

S4, there are hotsprings nearby (15 minutes drive away) so Molly can always go there is she wants something to do.

Chris and Kitty and Scott will go with me.

The weather is unpredictable for Sunday. Let’s hope.

:notworthy:

S4. you are de man! Ratties - Makes perfect sense to get a lift with S4, he is only 15 minutes away from me. Forget that PM.

S4. Pm for you (in about mmmm 2 minutes from now)

Looking forward to it!

You can always come with us as a backup plan if S4 is bailing. I will send you a PM tomorrow on how to get to the hospital. Then we can still decide on Sunday.

Cool Bananas.

Cheers

I am sorry, i have to downgrade us to a maybe for this hike, ratlung has the sniffles. i think because limey is going on the hike, we are cursed not to meet him.
