Hiking snack(s) of choice

Been going out hiking more during the week lately. Been thinking of good hiking snacks to get. Was gonna buy some Costco Trail Mix bags, but they don’t seem to sell them here judging from the website and shopee (haven’t gone to a store lately). There is a Viva brand one that is probably OK.

Right now my plan is to just buy some nuts and a 飯糰 from 7-11 if I know I’ll be in the mountains for a while.

Any other suggestions or favorites?

Fantuan is good. I prefer the local variety to the 7-11 rice triangles, because local fantuan are sold warm and are more filling. I also bring a banana, which I put in a banana-shaped shell that prevents it from being smooshed in my backpack, and chocolate bars are good for hiking in cold weather.

They also have this one which might be better;

Premium Trail Mix 737 g | Costco 好市多

Haven’t seen own brand for a long time, else buy the various components and put together your own!

I generally grab a couple of 飯糰 from the local 7 too, maybe a sambo, few boiled sweets for the sugar kick.

I like potato chips, especially Lays original flavor. Also Snickers bars work great.

I like the Viva with tropical fruit, easy to get but not great value

Have tried various local jerkey (tofu, pork, beef) but haven’t found one I like

I take Pringles camping because they are packable, i don’t like them for hiking because just salt and carbs

Have gotten various bars from Costco, including Nature Valley granola bars and Kirkland power bars

Sometimes make my own trail mix with various bags of whatever I pick up along the way. I use raw nuts for cooking, so usually have peanuts almonds and cashews at home

Currently have a big bag of some kind of nut and seed mix that I got from I can’t remember where

Dried mango from the Phils is something I also usually keep a pack of

I like PB&J/honey sandwich, boiled egg, leftover pizza, pasta salad.

A McDonalds double cheeseburger squished in a bag for a couple hours or so is oddly satisfying cold, like a meatloaf sandwich.

You could also use them as fire starters.

Oat/granola bars, protein bars, mixed nuts, leftover pizza, almond butter and banana sandwich, dried fruit, whatever available.

I just use a bit of scrap paper

On longer hikes I take a big block of cheddar, and just gnaw on it alongside my trail food (and apples, the first day or two). The cheese stays good for like four days in a sealed bag!

Something to not bring on your hike! Buy one get one free in 7-11, it’s vile.

7D brand, just mowed down on a pack

This one was pretty good

Base here is a nut and seed mix, plus salty peanuts, chocolate M&Ms, raisins, and dried cranberries

Shit. I like that one.

I try keep it to non processed foods

Some boiled eggs and bananas maybe fruits like blueberries, regular water in a non plastic bottle

Any new suggestions?

I tried 711 sandwich. Taste bad. And it exploded in the toiled the next day…
