Hola, It’s me again. 😃 So it will be a hiking event for everyone who loves going into the jungles of Taiwan. The event will take place at 1 pm on Sep 8 2007. We are going to look for the mysterious ghost village. Not bad at all, Kate. Even the one with the cellphone camera has come out much better than I’d have expected. I like the 1st and 8th pictures best. ---

Ok, I guess I will go up to the ghost village in the next days, depending a bit on weather. I will leave Longtan at a bout 7:30 and reach my “base camp” in Pinglin (my tend is still up there) at least at 9. Should give me enought time to make it easy with enought stops for photos. I will take my camera and try to get some nice shots to tempt you guys with it. 😃 Kate, your photos are great. Don’t worry too much about the technical quality, what counts is the composition and catching the moment, the rest is just add on. I guess I will be up in Pinglin this weekend again. Found it is really great as a base for wonderfull relaxing weekends (even a hord of wild runners passing through for some hours couldn’t disturb it much). The combination of beeing in the mountains on a great spot, swimming in the river (especially at 6 in the morning), river tracing up some streams, hiking, tubing down the river or just hanging out on the campground or the veranda is just too tempting. Want to explore the whole area a bit more. Muzha man, where did you get this map? Looked really good and usefull. ---

You can pick up the maps at the hiking shops near the Taipei Train station on Zhongshan Rd. It’s map 12. MetroOasis also has the maps and I believe there is a shop in Taoyuan. In any case, I will post a pic tonight of the relevant section highlighting Cloud9 and the old village. Unless you can read chinese you won’t really know where to look. ---

MetroOasis has a shop in Zhongli, yes. Will try to go there than and find some stuff. I can’t really read that much Chinese but I just use maps in Chinese, all this different romanization stuff just confuses me anyway. I also learned to read map in millitary, not paying attention to names, more to formation like rivers, peak, mountains so that maps are still usefull for me. Thanks for the help and it was nice to meet you up there. ---

The maps are published by 台灣交通出版社 and are called 大台北山區健行登山路線系列地圖. ---

I know there are a few dedicated members who’ll go out on short notice and that suits me fine most days. I’m just a hiker, not a tour guide. Everyone is welcome of course, but I don’t think lack of advanced notice is much of an issue. 😉 ---

Maybe more people would go if given sufficient notice. It was a suggestion to someone organizing hikes, not a complaint. Is that clear enough for everyone? ---
