Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

The TV series is available on DVD but yes, it’s probably hard to get hold of.[/quote]I’ve got it

Here? If so, you got some 'splaining to do…

Gimme ! Gimme! Gimme!

While we’re at it, I’ve got the radio series myself :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not going to give it to you (It’s mine! mine !) But if you wanted to arrange a Hitchhiker’s viewing session, I’m up for that.

YES

So - can we interpret this as an open invitation for us all to come around your place and watch it (again)?

I always meant to buy it, just never got around to it…

Was the TV series any good? I heard it was horrible. Obviously I haven’t seen it. What’s it like?

Well, it probably hasn’t aged very well - think Dr Who style effects for a start. And to be honest, it probably could’ve been made better, but I still think it was great - it was the TV series that got me onto the books, as a matter of fact.

Ditto - I saw the series first, so for me that’s what I think of when I think Hitchhiker’s. Yes, very much at the Dr Who level with cardboard sets and rubber-suit monsters and the fairly unconvincing Zaphod’s second head. The highlight for me was the ‘book’ graphics though which are far nicer than anything I’ve actually seen created on an actual computer, although I guess you could replicate them easily enough nowadays. Also the voice of the book and the gorgeously dorky and perpetually outraged Arthur Dent. I’m afraid I’m not enough of a fan to actually know who played them  I loved the transitions from book exposition “in an uncanny coincidence” to story back to the book. However, if you read the books first, you could be disappointed, because I think they trimmed quite heavily, keeping only a few elements of the second and third books IIRC.

Well, that’s settled…

We’re all going to Big Fluffy Matthew’s house for a Hitchhiker’s Guide marathon and Tetsuo’s bringing the radio program tapes for our listening pleasure as well. Bring all Hitchhiker paraphenalia (including your towel) chez BFM.

Actually they’re MP3s. Copying them to CD would take a good 5 CDs, and I’m stingy like that :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, come on! How else were we going to validate Schrodinger? Fine, next time you can get radiation poisoning and I’ll remember the calculator and scratch pad :unamused: I’m sure we can borrow Tetsuo’s new avatar for the rest

You just described a typical day at work for me. :astonished:

For you hitchhiker fans, the new radio series started this evening here in the UK. Features most of the original cast plus Douglas Adams himself.

Six new episodes altogether, on Tuesdays at 6.30pm, with repeats on Thursdays at 11.00pm UK time. The programs are available to listen online for a week after the repeat broadcast (i.e. episode one is available from early morning Sept 24 Taiwan time).

Go here for links.

Beat you to it three weeks ago salmon :stuck_out_tongue:

THE HITCHHIKER

Salmon, long time no see. Don’t tell me you’ve been lurking all this time.

Brian

Well, I stayed away for a while but time on hands plus nagging disquiet over my ignorance of latest thinking on the “Taipei Times / Foreign Women / BushKerry what a pile of gobshites” discussions drew me back.
I’m not planning on a Sir Don relaunch yet though.

Anyway, salmons are supposed to return to where they were born, isn’t it?

For those of you not paying attention (or not as lucky as I was to get this link):

The first official, full trailer for H2G2
The quality’s not the best, and Zaphod was a surprise, but otherwise… definite potential.

Also, a few shots from the film are available here and here.

Oh, and apparently Stephen Fry is now the voice of The Book, Alan Rickman is the voice of Marvin, and Bill Bailey is the whale.

since that link doesn’t work, and since I found this one while browsing…here you are then…

Did anyone manage to record the new radio shows?
