Holding APRC - entering as a tourist

Possibly the wrong Thread, but still trying.

I am a foreigner currently living in Europe for almost 5 years now. I am still holding a APRC and applied for the 2 year leave period already the third time.

Is it possible to fly into Taiwan as a tourist, and thus not to trigger the NHI system (especially with its latest changes regarding the payment).

I am worried, that if I show my passport (I on purpose would not use the e-gates) my ARC card would get activated automatically.
My Chinese has become a bit rusty, but hopefully still good enough to get the situation straight and clear with the Taiwan custom officer on duty.

Do those entry Formular still exist on incoming flights, where I remember from a long time ago, that I could tick the purpose of stay being a visitor …

Can someone please give me a hand- and useful information ?
Thank you very much !

Correct. There is no difference using your APRC or Passport to enter Taiwan while your APRC is valid.

The only way to avoid it is to enter using a different passport if you have one

ARC and APRC are tied to your passport number.

Even if you don’t show your APRC card, you still enter as a resident.

Doesn’t matter if you use e-gate or human counter. Doesn’t matter if you fill the arrival card or not.

If the concern here is triggering NHI dues, I thought you could pause it, then when you come back you’ll need to stay in Taiwan for at least 3 months to resume it?

At least until recently it was that NHI resumed immediately, and you needed to pay it for a few months even if you suspended it again immediately (citing being out of country for 6+ months).

But this has been changed recently, see the recent threads

Can you postpone the trip?
