Has anybody else experienced a boost on CHT 3g? usually I get around 700kb down but since about 2 days ago I have hit upwards of 3mb down averaging at about 2mb.
CHT deployed their 7.2Mbps UMTS late 2008/early 2009 iirc. Sometimes I can cruise around 5Mbps when downloading multiple files from Youtube. Mainly at night.

shrugs I live about a block away from taipei 101. I’ll take screencap next time. I was too busy downloading movies and rushing to work to show it.
Do you get that screenshot (showing tethering speeds) when tethering an iPhone? I only see an “Internet tethering on” or something similar indicator on top of the iPhone when tethering is in use. I would love to see a similar page that showed me the actual speeds I’m getting.
Xinyi District was the first to get 3.5G rollout, so you’ve had 7.2Mbps access for a while now. Actually according to their own roadmaps they had 10.2Mbps (the highest level of HSDPA downlink) slated for 2009, although that might have been pushed back. Most 3G handsets and dongles today are only capable of 7.2Mbps though.
I guess I can jump in here and ask if anyone has an HTC or BlackBerry and having positive results with their 3G+? I had heard that BB in Taiwan doesn’t have 3G, which doesn’t make sense.
Of course there are HTC (WinMo & Android) and Blackberry users on 3G in TW. The only thing you need to watch for is that the handset supports UMTS 2100. Any handset you buy from a 3G carrier in TW will support it, but phones from elsewhere will be a mixed bag. UMTS 2100 was intended to be the global baseline standard, but phones built specifically for carriers that deployed on other frequencies (e.g. AT&T is on UMTS 850/1900 and T-Mo is on 1700) may not be built with UMTS 2100 transceivers. And of course any phone using CDMA2000 will not work in TW at all.
