I know of a place on Shamao Road just after Zhongshan North Road finishes, but have yet to drive past on the scooter when it’s open. Will try this weekend. Does anyone know of other places where there are horses (also in or near Tianmu) where I might be able to get some droppings? (I need it to start some ‘hot’ composting)

A bit troublesome, surely? Just get some rice straw or even organic bedding like for pet rabbits, put it in a bucket, piss on it, and add a couple of dog’s eggs, which are much easier to find. Give it a mix and Bob’s your uncle. Job done!

Dunno about dogs eggs, but there are quite often a lot of eggs in dog shit. Horse shit might have parasites too, but relatively few, and its a better consistency.
In theory composting might kill the eggs, but I wouldn’t fancy using dogs as, er, Guinea Pigs, especially not if I was growing vegetables.
DIY? Long tradition in China, Korea, probably here too. Guaranteed human-compatible parasites, of course, but if you’re clean, its clean, if you know what I mean.
Get “the humanure handbook”. Interesting read, even if you’d rather use horsepoo.

there are also a lot of waterbuffalo farms, not sure about your area, but they work the same for composting/gardening/etc.
