Funny, I never knew the US did trotting. Thought that was just a French thing.
Sure. It first became popular in the US, and the standardbred is a US breed (an offshoot of the thoroughbred.) Technically there are more “pacers” in NA (pretty big in Canada too, the horse Somebeachsomewhere above was a Canadian bred pacer) and down under. Pacers move both left legs forward as both right legs go back, and so on. Trotting is a more natural gait in the animal world, and dominates in European nations, mostly Scandinavia and France, where it’s a pretty big deal.
