I like to melt semisweet chocolate in a bit of butter and water and then whisk in a little unsweetened cocoa powder. When it’s smooth, add Costco eggnog until you get the consistency and power you are looking for. Half and half works fine too.
Just milk, cinnamon stick, orange/lemon peel and chocolat (not powder). It just needs time, slow fire and constant stirring. A tip is to remove it from the fire when it starts boiling, then place it again in the fire. Repeat this process several times. You can get a dense hot chocolate this way without corn starch.
It’s back! Just in time, too, at least for those of us in northern Taiwan, where the endless grey skies continue to demoralize.
I am about to sip a cup (available at your local Family Mart for NT$85) now.
ADDENDUM: At first sip, it seems a bit less adventerous and experimental compared to last year’s product. It’s a more conventional hot chocolate, still quite delicious in my opinion, that would probably appeal to a wider range of palates than last year’s offering.

Very good indeed!
Actually, anything hot would do it right now, but this chocolate does it the right way.
I have the Swiss Miss dark chocolate, got a case at Costco
Also, nothing puts the peppermint in hot chocolate better than a bottle of schnapps ![]()
[Yu Chocolatier’s hot chocolate at Family Mart]: Very good indeed!
There is currently a minor promotion going on, with Family Mart members getting a bit of a discount, taking the price down to NT$75. With the cold weather, there may be no better time than now to enjoy a cup. ![]()

where the endless grey skies continue to demoralize.
Speak for yourself. I’m totally moralized!
Hot chocolate may help in such situations, too!

I did a big bike ride today and the hot chocolate was probably the happiest moment.
My go-to chocolate drink is Chocoholic’s mascarpone hot chocolate, but it’s a little bit out of the way from my home and workplace, so I haven’t been there in the past month. I’ll try this new FamiMart drink and I hope I find a replacement for my current favourite choco-drink. ![]()
