Which one would be a better one to go to, wulai or beitou? could you guys recommend places to check out and maybe prices? my girlfriend and i are looking to get a private spa. any ideas? thanks!
I can only comment on the WuLai area. Beitou is obviously way more convenient, but there’s something to be said for mountains and rivers outside the window (try to ignore the random PVC piping festooned all over the scenery, of course). Nice, and the taxis charge a flat-rate NT$500 to/from Xindian MRT station.
I visited both and really liked both. I think it depends on what you’re looking for: to get to Beitou is really convenient with the MRT, but the area outside the MRT stop and around the Hot Spring Park has a very urban feel to it, so you don’t feel like you left Taipei. When you go to Wulai (e.g. by bus from MRT Xindian), it really feels like going on a daytrip outside the city, as the street winds through a river gorge with a lot of greenery and the town itself is a nice little tourist town by the river. I heard Wulai gets really crowded on the weekend, but I went on a Saturday around noon and it was not crowded at all.
I don’t know how their private rooms are as I went to the communal area of Sweet Me in Beitou (fullmoonspa.com.tw/), but both also have private spa suites and the prices on their websites. I personally liked the Full Moon Spa better, as the semi-open air pool with the view over the river was nice, while at Sweet Me the windows were closed and the venitlation not good, so there was mold on the ceiling in some areas.
thanks so much for the reply! yea for sure, my gf and i would rather get a private bath, so i’ll def need to look into that…do they charge by the hour or do you have to get a hotel room there and its included in the price of the room? sorry im new at this.
i was looking at the full moon website and its all in chinese, do they have it in english? if not can you let me know what their website says about private rooms/baths? thank you!!
Usually you pay an up-front fee for a certain time (typically two hours) and then a nominal rate per-hour thereafter. I remember it’s about 1000-1500 initially and somewhat less (~500-600/hr) per additional hour.
thanks! do you have to book a private bath ahead of time or can u do it when u arrive there? is this something we can do over the web or do we need to call in?
I recommend you call and reserve “to avoid disappointment”, as they say (you don’t pay in advance). In theory you can just walk in and see if a room is available. I’ve not come across any with web booking. If you’re worried about speaking Chinese, the better ones seem to have English-speaking staff.
I’m sorry but I don’t speak Chinese either… I just ran the website through Google Translate and tried to make sense out of translations like “Male Soup” (so public area for males) and “Female Soup”
Depends on what you want. There are some really swank hotspring hotels in the Beitou area. Perfect for those seeking private baths. Some of them can be a little costly, but discounts are available if you know where to look. Tonight would be a perfect night for hotsprings. Bet the hotels are booked solid.
I just found a very detailled link about the different hot spings around Taipei, maybe it’s useful to you, Ayee007: smarttravelasia.com/taipei.htm
thanks for the link…i’ll tab through it and see what i can find.
i dont think we want to get a hotel room for the night, but just a place where we can spend maybe two hours in a private hot spring, maybe a massage if it isnt too costly…not sure where to look…im thinking the wulai area…but maybe locals would be able to help me gather prices?
