I am going to be in Palau for about 10 days, for 5 of those days I am staying at the cheapest hotel on the island the Tree D, that’s fine for me since I am there for the diving, for the other 5 days I’d like to stay somewhere nicer since my gf is joining me. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel on Palau ? Also are there any side trips that you guys would recommend ? I am diving for 5 days, then a day of sea kayaking a day trip to the jelly fish lake, I’ve left 3 days open to just explore around. What would you do with them ?
The Palau Pacific Resort, though it might be a little pricey, is well worth it. We noticed that most of the other hotels didn’t have beach access, but the PPR has its own private beach with great snorkeling. The pool there was a little disappointing, but who needs a pool when you have the ocean!
Pretty sure the DW is cheaper than the Tree D, and has bigger rooms.
I second the PPR…But, you are looking at a minimum of 220+US per night. The beach is fantastic though. I never got to stay there, just slummed for awhile after the very overpriced buffet.
There is a dedicated Taiwanese Hotel on the way to the airport from Koror where I stayed last time. It was very strange. All of the staff is from the mainland, and all of the cable is somehow piped in from Taiwan. Maybe she’d be comfortable staying there.
But if you want to spoil, and have beach access from the hotel, then the PPR really is the only choice. Pricey, but worth every penny.
I’m jealous…Have to wait another 3 months to go. :s

have fun
220 $US/night a bit out of my range, maybe I’ll walk through the lobby just to take a look, my budget is more around the 100/night
I ended up with the Tree D since that was the cheapest hotel that was offered as part of the package I got from Sams Tour. Don’t be too jealous guys, you are all in Taiwan and Palau is a short hop away I am heading back to the US so it will be a while before I can make it to Palau.
I read about this guy who got dropped off on an uninhabited island and basically spent the night there by himself, he rented a tent from a local shop. I’ll see if the gf goes for that, no need to pay for the hotel, just some food and a cooler of beer.
I totally recommend the PPR, although I believe the price is a little bit expensive if you are staying in one of the old rooms. I was there in October and had a great 4-day rest. The beach is nice as well as the snorkeling reef in front of it. The ambiance is cool and relaxed and the staff very welcoming. It is true that this is the only hotel with beach in Palau… but who will stay in a hotel without a beach when you go to a place for diving or snorkeling? Check on Tripadvisor and see the good comments on this hotel. I also recommend Neco Marine for the snorkeling tour. It was USD 95 per person but worthwile. I loved my trip.
Also why don’t you check with one of the Taiwanese tour operator if you can just buy the hotel+flight package without having to do the tour program with them. It might end up cheaper for you… Good trip !
I stayed in the Airai View Hotel once.

Certainly not as expensive as the PPR or the Royal Hotel.
