This is the first time for me writing in a forum. Well, my inquiry is this: I live in California and have a large 4 bedroom house with 2 rooms vacant. My kids have gone to college. I am interested in any student who would like to live with us at a nominal fee (to be arranged at a later date). We live in the outlying area of Los Angeles about 15 miles from a Community College. I understand that a lot of people who move to Los Angeles move into the Monterery Park area or Orange County because there are a lot of Chinese there. Where we live, there are very few Chinese, beside my wife who is from Taiwan, so one is almost forced into learning conversational English. The Community College is vell versed in ESL so that a student can come here to learn English. Besides, it is less expensive to go to the Community College and transfer to either the Califonia University system or the California State University. I did that and it worked for me. Now I am studying English and minoring in ESL with hopes to go to Taiwan to teach English. My choice was the Cal State system because the teachers are fully qualified MA’s or mostly PhD’s. In the University of California system, most of the teachers are graduate students with the professors teaching two or three classes. Their schedule is too full with research work to bother with actual teaching. That is why I opted for the Cal State system. The professors are teachers first, researchers second. Ok, enough of my soapbox, like I said, if there are any Taiwan students who wish to contact me to study here, let me know.
