How do i access my money?

ok i have money saved up in a canadian bank accountt (td canada trust)…but i’m not sure how i can access it in taiwan? is the only way through an ATM? and it will just automatically give me NTD right?

or should i just cash it all out and open a bank account in taiwan?

what is the best way to access my money ?

thanks

In my couple of years here I have never had a Taiwan bank account, I have simply used my ATM card to draw money on my US accounts. Any money I made in Taiwan, such as part-time teaching, etc., I received in cash and spent first.

When pulling money from the ATM, it will be in NTD and you don

I have my VISA card through TD/Canada Trust and found out that I cannot use it anywhere in Taiwan. Apparently, according to the banks here, TD/ Canada Trust and Taiwan do not have an International Visa arrangement with Taiwan. No problem with using it outside of Taiwan but here… NO! Make sure that you will not have to use this card. If you plan on using a credit card it might be wise to get one from CIBC (or any other bank that can confirm that their card will be accepted here). I do use my debit card with no problem but it is through a credit union, not TD.

smurfettex, if you need US$$, some ICBC (International Commercial Bank of China) branches have a foreign currency ATM in their 24h access area, mostly US$ and Jap. Yen. The catch is that they are “reserved” for ROC nationals as a note on the ATM will inform you, but I’ve used them on occasion (using my ICBC debit card), no problems … I’m not sure about the fx-rates on these machines though, neither do I know whether it would spit out currency on a foreign debit or credit card ?? … Xpet.

I was able to withdraw money from my Australian ANZ and Commonwealth bank accounts (savings) from those ATMs just outside of the MRT stations.

ATM is the obvious choice, if you bank has branches here then perhaps you can get money on a different way. As well you can to a TT if you have an account here, given you can trigger this remotely (internet-banking or authorized person to access your account in Canada).

I guess that depends on what your plans are. Do you want to have all your money here of do you only need some cash on occassion.
Do you work here and are you being paid here, by cash or via bank transfer? Etc. …
