How do I change from a visitor visa to a working visa?

Hi, Im currently a student on a 60 day extendable visa. If I get a job before this is up do I have to leave the country again to have my VISA type changed??

Depends on when your work permit gets approved. If everything goes through before your visa is up, then no, you don’t need to leave the country. you just get your visa changed to a resident one in Taiwan and then you get your ARC. However, getting your work permit takes time and allot of the times it doesn’t come in until after your visa runs out. In this way you need to leave the country and get another 60 day exten.

Thanks, such a pain huh!

You only have to leave the country if you have been here for 180 days, otherwise you can extend your visa in Taiwan as a student by paying your fees and showing proof of sufficient attendance. The secretary at Pioneer can provide you with the documents you need. The police will probably also extend your visa if you can prove to them that you have a job application under way, unless the application process will take you past the 180-day limit.
