The Household Registration Office wouldn’t let you use the Taiwan hospital issued English birth certificate?
We don’t want to let it get to that point. We plan on arriving with the official german document and if they don’t want to accept that, the GIT cordially invited the clerk at the hrr to give them a call.
We also applied for a children’s passport at the git just in case.
I’d love to know this as well. As of today (october 2026), can 2 non-taiwanese parents get a proper English birth certificate for a Taiwan born child, with a proper personal English name (no transliterated version)?
Yes! Taiwan hospital should be able to issue both Chinese and English version of birth certificate. What to do with those certificates depends on your home country. In our case about 25 years ago we went to our country representative office in Taipei and they accepted hospital made docs and gave us another certificate. Not sure if anything changed
It may be an english version of the certificate. But can the child’s name on it be an english name, unrelated to the chinese one?
