How do we make drivers yield to pedestrians at crosswalks?

The trick is to not hesitate and fully commit. Once the driver sees you hesitate and doubt, he will smell weakness.

I bet the wagon traffic back in Li Bai’s time was wicked. :sunglasses:

Some of the traffic control centers in some of the cities are working on installing sensors to detect when someone is speeding through the intersection and when it does detect it it will send a warning to the other drivers in the area (they didn’t go into detail on this point). I asked one of the employees if when the system detects such an event the system would create a log for the police to examine so they can issue a fine. Was told no plans for that.

Funnily enough they are working on installing sensors at place like bus stops to get people to stop parking illegally and the system will detect when an unauthorized vehicle is parked there and issue a verbal warning. Failure to comply with the verbal warning will have a report sent to the police station where they can issue a ticket (some testing with this already going on).

I just thought it was…interesting that running through a red light > don’t automatically send report to police. Illegal parking > automatically send report.
I’m just thinking why not both :no_mouth:

I feel like that’s what buses need, seen too many people get hit getting off the bus.

Maybe add some spikes (to the bars).

Cars usually stop for me. Maybe that’s because I’m around 400 lbs. Guess they’re afraid of damaging their vehicles…

Taiwan having its priorities straight again. /s :disappointed: They probably don’t want to piss off the “reckless driver” vote. Baby steps, I guess.

Install barricades that go up and down before the crosswalk when the light turns red. Though that might cause the Taiwanese to detour around them on the sidewalk.

Barricade the sidewalk too.

No need. It’s full of parked cars.

What sidewalk?

Yeah that’s the most retarded system ever.

Unfortunately anything wheelchair accessible will also be motorcycle accessible.

if this works then they need them at more places than only bus stops. crossings is a must. people parking on crossings disgusts me. theres one near my house on a blind corner, its dangerous enough without trucks blocking the view and sending you out into the chaos.

its always about the voting, how about voting against a govt who won’t pull their finger out? why is that not a thing?

or just make turning when the crossing is green illegal. no reason for this not to be a thing.

I find that it is best to run out onto the walkway quickly and get hit by a car and then roll on the ground at least knowing that you are technically correct… no wait a minute… (and by the way that comment is about what happens on the footpath, bruv)

That would be the logical next step to take…which is what worries me. Don’t know if I trust them to actually do something that makes sense.

As an extra tidbit with how many drivers get so close to pedestrians crossing I remembered how I was told that in some cities in China they use cameras to automatically detect (using the zebra crossing to help calculate) how close cars are to pedestrians and cars that get within ~3 meters of a crossing pedestrian are automatically issued a fine.

The irony of it all is in many ways China is the more advanced country.

It’s not only that, some restaurants (lunch box) rent places right in front of bus stop and think it’s their private parking space!

I was in Xi’An last week and took a walk to the local park, was faced with 3 lanes of traffic in each direction and a pedestrian crossing with no traffic lights to get there. Traffic was medium heavy and there was no way I was chancing a frogger across when a taxi in the lane nearest me stopped followed by the middle and inner lane, walked across and before I got to the middle of the road traffic on the other side had stopped! Thought I was in some sort of parallel universe, taxi didn’t move until I reached the center divider. Must be big fines!

I guess we are, started in 2016 when suddenly Trump was President of the US.
