How do you lot cope

Hey guys - I am loving Taiwan more and more everyday and I am wanting to never leave; but - one thing that drives me is being paid by the hour and having no holiday pay. I love teaching (I have a degree in TESOL and a CELTA) but I can’t get work in a state-school as I am not certified back home - I did not do a PGCE or a BA Education.

Therefore I am stuck with prvate schools and hourly pay! I was wondering for those long-timers how do you cope with this? Is there anyone in my situtaion?

This is really getting to me as I don’t have a steady income - I am considering the move to Tokyo - but I guess life aint as good as it is on Formosa!

I have found that being paid hourly usually pays better. Just make sure you get a solid 6 hours or so a day, 5 days a week. The bad part of course is not getting paid when you go on holiday, but I usually take 2 weeks a year which makes it half bearable!

I have never worked for anything other than hourly pay.
It’s such a cure for solving the space/time/effort/responsibility issues.
If time =money, then why wouldn’t you wan’t to be paid by the hour?

My view is perhaps corrupted by age, military service, marriage, and children. :grandpa:

As for example - I am earning 600 an hour for 120 hours a month that makes 72k per month, therefore should I go on holiday for 2 weeks that would make 36k for that month! Also, having just 2 weeks off plus Cny is kinda sux don’t u think?

But I see what you mean, should you take a salaried position for 65k a month then you would be getting less money but paid holidays!

There are salaried positions where you are paid for vacation. If that’s what you want, find something like that the next time you go job hunting.

I have a pretty decent salary for an efl monkey. I have to bend over and take what ever my boss wishes to give me for the pleasure, though.

Early in my career, a wise man told me; don’t EVER teach for a salary; hourly paid all the way. People will respect your time, more. He also told me how to get a Soi Cowboy blowjob for free and how you should always let a watermelon get to room temperature before attempting to insert one’s penis into it.

My thinkings for wanting to move to Tokyo are; I am currently working for HESS racking in 99,000NT$ a month - But, I am not sure if they will renew my contract. I am happy with my salary and am thinking if I get the boot then maybe I’ll be hard pushed trying to earn this in Taipei through other schools. I am on $750 an hour and have a guarentee of 30+ hours a week. Most schools in Tpe don’t offera gaurentee.

In Tokyo I have been offered work paying 350,000Yen and it’s each month so I will have security and be able to live a decent life - it’s clean too and beautiful. The only downside is its expensive and VERY BUSY - 12million ppl in the city and 30mill in metro area. Thats worse than London and I’d hate to live in London…

Any advice

Do what you feel like doing. Only whores think about the money.

The one and only HONEST answer in this entire thread:

Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of drinking.

Which proves my point - we are all whores.

Yep, but there are whores, and there are whores.
Some, like you, are swanning around the halls of power, man-mistress to billionaires, while others like me are giving NT$100 shags in the back of van parked outside an army base.
