We need to check in to our serviced apartment next to City Hall station by 21.00. Our flight lands at 18.15. Will we do it by bus to the main station then MRT?
Assuming you take an hour to get your luggage, then if you get off the bus at Minquan West Road MRT then you should be OK. It will be bit stressful, though, and you may well be 30 minutes to an hour late.
Thanks. I thought we might be cutting it a bit fine. Maybe we’llnget a taxi instead. We’ll have a lot of luggage.
Taxis don’t run from the airport to City Hall. Your best bet is to take an Evergreen shuttle bus from TPE to Banciao main station, transfer there to the TRA. Go North on the TRA local train and get off at Songshan station. Walk south on Songshan Roadfor ~3km to City Hall. This is how I do it.

Thanks for the advice, but we’ll have several suitcaes so won’t be walking very far! Surely we can get a taxi into the main station or somewhere and transfer there? Your route sounds quite complicated. I think we would lose a lot of time in transfers, wouldn’t we?

Taxis get you where you want in Taipei… for not waiting at the airport, i recommend the limousine service, not much expensive

First, let me translate the times involved into English so we don’t have to do the mental arithmetic. Your flight lands at 6:15pm. You need to check in at the apartment by 9:00pm.
Assume you get through immigration, baggage retrieval and customs by 7:30pm, you can take an airport bus into town, and once there, take a taxi to your final destination.
If you don’t clear customs by 8:00pm, then a cab or limo is your best choice.
Sure they do. They go wherever you tell them to go.
With 3km of walking, the wait at Banqiao station, etc. there’s lots of room for delay.
Taxis and limos are fastest.
FreeGo bus also goes from the airport to near City Hall (Sun Yat Sen Memorial). It gets into the center of town faster than the Evergreen buses (45 min vs. 60 min). Unlike Evergreen, the FreeGo drivers tend to vary their routes depending on the passengers’ destinations, getting them home more quickly.
Take the Airbus to the Hyatt (NT$140) it is next to City Hall.
Transferring at far away places like Minquan xi loo, Banqiao and Main Station defies logic.

What’s logic? I live in Taiwan.
Seriously, I find the buses take too long once they get into Taipei. Maybe I just had an unlucky experience.

there is definitely truth to that, but if you are gonna slog thru city traffic might as well do it to an East side destination as oppose to a West side or Banqiao destination. The highway travel time is relative. The Airbus exits off Jianguo, so even if you get off at the Howard Hotel (first or second stop I believe) you are still a short cab away from the destination, not needing to mash trhough MRT transfers with luggage.
Thanks guys. I guess we’ll see how long it takes to get through the airport then decide what to do. Any tips on where to find where these different buses go from?
there is a pseudo bus station inside each terminal, each competing company has their bus routes and departure times posted.
Thanks dd.
If you are a ‘we’ as you imply I’m not sure why you don’t just go straight to the taxi/limo option with all of your luggage. Two bus tickets and I’m guessing a taxi within Taipei will probably cost clothes to 500NT. I think the taxi/limo is around 1000NT and it will be much more convenient that loading/unloading your luggage multiple times.
Exactly. From The bus depot you would have to drag your bags or take a taxi anyway -and if you have a lot of luggage, that would be inconvenient. Let’s do the math:
For 2 people: bus 150nts per person -in chepaie Kuoguang which is not the safest, very unconfortable-, 300nts, plus taxi from bus station to apartment, at least 75 -given time and traffic let’s say 100nts, if taxi can fit your bags.
For 4 people> 600nts, plus one bag per peron -does not fit in taxi, two taxis then: 800 nts plus dragging stuff
Really, a van door to door, airport-home, would be 900nts. You’d be a lot more confortable, less stressed, and after jet lagged, and all that implies a big move, it would be better. If you were a single student with a backpack and a duffle bag, no problem, but moving in from across teh ocean entitles you to a little care. This is not pampering not being spoiled, it is about practicallity.
This is the official guide on transportation from Taoyuan Airport.
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport>>Transportation>>Metropolitan and Regional Suburb Transfer
My favorite limo service is 白宮 Whitehouse. If I am traveling with luggage, this is what I use. Else, I will just take an airport bus.

This is one of the least practical (intelligent?) solutions I’ve ever read … If going to Banqiao, TRA? No need, MRT (blue line) is nearby and stops at ‘city hall’ … there are even shuttle buses that go into Taipei and probably close to the end destination … and yes, taxis go anywhere you want … even as far as Taizhong if needed.
Here’s a page with buses to Taipei a.o.

One company stops at the Hyatt … close to City Hall
Another one stops at Sun Yat Sen memorial … close to City Hall
Thanks for the wealth of information. We did get a taxi in the end. Getting through the London underground with three suitcases, two carry-on cases and a backpack just about did us in. We got an ordinary cab from the airport (estate car) . It cost 1200 NTD to City Hall station. The only problem was trying to explain where we wanted to go. My husband showed him the map on his phone in the end which had the Chinese.
There are three in our party including my son so it wasn’t loads more expensive and was the practical solution after a long flight. Much quicker too, getting us here at about 8.45, just short of our deadline.
Welcome to Taiwan!!
Thanks! I’m :yay: to be here!
