How long does it the AIT to issue a new US passport?

My friend’s US passport is about to expire.

Can the AIT issue a new US passport? If so, how long does it take?

Is she better off coming back to the US and get a new passport?

I just did mine in Dec 2006 and it took less than 10 working days.

I don’t know if it’s any better in America, but the Canadian trade office in Taipei can get you a passport in less time and with less hassle than if you were in Canada.

don’t know if it affects us but i read there have been big backlogs in passport applications due to some change at the mexican and canadian borders.
