I overstayed my visa and now have to apply for a new one in Hong Kong. How much money can I legally take out of the country? My concern is that (worst case scenario here) I’ll be refused the visa and though I think it’s unlikely it would mean end of access to whatever funds I have here.
Each passenger is entitled to depart with currency up to US$ 10,000 in cash or the equivalent in other foreign currencies. Excess amounts must be declared to and recorded by the Customs. Also, up to NT$ 60,000 in cash may be carried. Larger amounts are allowed only if a permit has been obtained from the Central Bank of China.
