How often should a kitten urinate?

I found this kitten next to the dumpster when I took my garbage out last night. I doubt she’s more than a couple weeks old.

I had some concerns about dehydration, but she’s doing very well. She can’t get enough of the goat’s milk, and tonight she lapped up the liquid from some tinned cat food.

I’ve never had a cat because of my allergy, but so far so good. However, that’s probably due to her being in the bathroom. She’s too young to be getting around much, but when she is and wants the run of my apartment, she will have to go.

Anyway…the point is I’ve done some research on the Internet, and discovered very young kittens can’t eliminate on their own, they need to be stimulated. I’ve done this a couple times today, but I have no idea how often this should be done, neither can I find that information. Xiao Hei Mao would appreciated your help.

It should be done after feeding. Goats’ milk is not ideal for them, it’s better for er… goats. Get some powdered cat milk from a vet or petshop.

Really! They have powdered cat milk! Geez, milking a cat has gotta be tedious.

But big ups, el Fluffo!

I think it’s amazing that you have gone out of your way to save the innocent creature. I think the allergy problem can be avoided by keeping the cat brushed and bathed as it’s usually the animal hair that upsets allergies. If you are in Taichung and don’t have a vet yet, please check out our website for information about our vets and our group. animalstaiwan.org

Really? I was always under the impression that it wasn’t the hair, but the dander (dead skin) that caused allergies.

Indeed, it would be better for her. However, I live in Qin Shuei. I had to visit three stores before I could even find a baby bottle. I’m fortunate to have found goats’ milk.

When I took her in I expected to have a dead cat the next day, but she’s doing really well. She was actually crying for her breakfast when I got up this morning, and she’s managing to crawl around a bit.

I’ll see if I can get one of the locals to help me take her to the vet in town, have her checked out.

Dr. Z- I don’t know how often a mother cat tends to her kittens’ behinds, but I do know the kitten absolutely must have this help. I applaud you :bravo: for knowing about this and offering this kindness to your new friend.

Thanks, it’s nice to hear someone say that.

Now can anyone recommend a way to do this without using my tongue? Cat urine doesn’t taste very good.

You could probably also feed her a little baby food. That’s what our vet recommended when we found little Ping Ping at 5-6 weeks old. Chicken flavored was his favorite.

Okay, no, other sites say this can dehydrate a very young kitten.

They should poo a few times a day:

And pee after each feeding which should be 3-4 times a day.

I’ll keep that in mind for when she reaches 5 weeks. Right now I am supplementing her goats’ milk (which she loves) with raw egg and juice from tinned cat food.

She is doing really well. 1000% improvement from when I found her. She was even up and about crawling around the bathroom today.

Hi, yeah, see the post above. Also the one below about elimination.
