Their value proposition is “an anti-Dpp party for people who find the modern KMT too repugnant”.

Meanwhile, C Donovan Smith continues his stellar series on the upcoming elections with a piece on KMT developments in Miaoli:

We know what they will do. Say whatever Taiwanese want to hear and then sell Taiwan out to China. You can already see it with how they agreed with China’s demands that the Taiwan Strait is internal waters and then after the backlash saying they meant it was within China’s ADIZ. There’s many other examples, usually about a weekly thing, of this kind of behavior however that’s probably the most recent.

The KMT are still blinded by the money they think they can make from China.
The reality is most of the families in the KMT would be the first ones rounded up in a CCP takeover.
Xi Jinping thinks that Taiwan should be ruled the way he rules China. Meaning total and complete subservience. Or exactly what has happened in Macau and Hong Kong. With card carrying lackeys put in place to do his bidding.
So Hong Kong is the easiest look at what the future of Taiwan would be like under CCP rule.
Mainland China is already compiling datasets on every single person living in Taiwan. They are doing this through access to Apple, Facebook, Line, TikTok, and other social media accounts. Using these datasets the CCP will refuse to renew household registrations. This will force those with no household registration into China. With nothing.
This was the single most effective measure the CCP used within Hong Kong. It prevented citizens from opening or accessing bank accounts, accessing healthcare, and accessing government services.
Then the CCP will expand sedition laws to cover the populace of Taiwan. Using the already collected datasets they will identify anyone that has posted the Taiwan flag and posted pro Taiwan content.
Another tool that has been used extensively within China is assets confiscation laws. It’s not hard to see who this will be aimed at in Taiwan. And as the richest 5% of the Taiwanese population own almost all the wealth it will see a clearing out of any of those people that are deemed to harbor independence.
Of course a lot of that richest 5% are also members of the KMT. So bit of a catch 22 there for them. And most of those people also have residency or dual citizenship. Which is where the next crackdown will be.
All dual citizens will be required to choose a single nationality. With those still living in Taiwan most likely having it chosen for them. Meaning Chinese.
So the KMT can bleat on all they like about being relevant but until they face those fairly straightforward realities they’ll struggle to find any relevance beyond seeking power for powers sake.
They haven’t woken up to the fact China is richer, they still see TW as a manager class to manage factories in China.
“The reality is most of the families in the KMT would be the first ones rounded up in a CCP takeover.” - I think DPP will be first, KMT leaders might follow the footsteps of Wang Jing Wei…
Most of the DPP will be evacuated off the island. The KMT will stay out of their hubris thinking they will be the ones put in place to manage the country. In any case most of the DPP fall into that top 5% category.
You are flattering the current KMT leaders.
Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) suddenly cut short an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW) after the journalist mentioned that his party is suffering from a low approval rating of 14%.
DW’s original article.
It’s almost a Xi Jinping level of tantrum. Meanwhile the CCP still have no problem meeting with KMT politicians while telling the PLAN to get their warships doing laps around the island.
The ambassador to Australia seems pretty certain that Taiwan wants to be part of China and that those Taiwanese that disagree will be re-educated to think like the other 1.4 billion Chinese people in China. So it makes me wonder why the elite in China educate their kids in the USA or UK.
Judging by the example of Ukraine, the more strongly the people of Taiwan express their refusal to be considered as a part of China, the more likely the international community would step up their support for the Taiwanese people if war ever does come.
I hate fear based politics, but there are a lot to be scared of when it comes to dealing with China. It would suck if you simply capitulate, it would suck if you fight. It’s really a matter of choosing which sucks less. When I look at East Turkestan, Tibet and Inner Mongolia, capitulation definitely sucks way harder.
That’s why the CCP will lose every KMT election for them as long as Xi is in power and the party refuses to play their part in the current international order.
However, for the CCP, it’s out with the old KMT and in with the TPP. A pawn is a pawn is a pawn, regardless of what you’ve named it.
This reminds me so much of HK now. They just live in their own world, where they are in “control” and can’t fathom reality
As I’ve mentioned on other posts China’s internal economy is collapsing. They like to go on about how much they have in foreign reserves yet they always fail to mention that their local and city governments also owe as much as they have.
With multinational companies looking for the exit in order to manufacture in a more stable operating environment and the reputations damage between China and every major trading country it’s looking more and more that the failing emperor will lash out as a distraction from his failings.
Unfortunately Taiwan is the only place left that can be lashed out at.
Going by what the CCP and their so called wolf warriors are saying if the Taiwanese vote for anyone but the KMT then it will be considered a vote for independence and thereby used as justification for attack.
Because while they are boasting loudly about annexing Taiwan, they secretly think their nation is deeply unreliable and are making contingency plans to get out of there?
Just a guess here. ![]()

Sort of has something to do with the elite making sure they control all the capitalism. Xi Jinping’s family own the rights to all the Mercedes dealerships across China as well as all the Rolex shops. Plus many more businesses.
It’s the Taiwanese Bruce Aylward!
Do you have any specific quotes?
The Chinese ambassador to France. The Chinese ambassador to Australia (twice now).
“There might be a process for the people in Taiwan to have a correct understanding of China about the motherland.”
“For those secessionists it is not a question of reeducation. They are going to be punished according to the law.”
