How to change your Chinese name

Hi! Is “仰深” a good Chinese name? It was given to me by a friend.

Welcome to the forum!
As for your question, you probably should ask this to your Taiwanese friends, instead of an expat online forum :2cents:

It’s not a good name. I asked someone, had a look at it, and according to the facial expression and the explanation, not good.
And use three characters, family name (one) and first name (two).

How to chose a Chinese name

For Taiwan use traditional characters.

I do not know if this applies with foreigners, but Taiwanese citizens are allowed like 2 name changes in their life. But also because in Taiwan culture women doesn’t change their family name just because they married, so that isn’t a problem.

I actually have one name change to my record (it says this when you get your household registration, which lists the history of your household) because the guy at the household registration office made an error when I wrote my name back in 2003 when I first registered my HHR. Basically I couldn’t even write Chinese so they misread the characters and so it ends up being registered as a name change.

Iirc you’re allowed one change you don’t need to justify, but beyond that you need a reason such as “someone else has the same name”. There’s a link earlier in the thread.

Like this you mean?

Genuinely impressed by how stupid this is. :salute:

If it’s good for Uncle B’s business, is it stupid or smart?
